cystadenoma vs cystadenocarcinoma vs complex benign cyst

Just had abdominal pelvic sonogram which showed cyst on both ovaries 15.7/8.4/10.5 on the left, and 6.3/1.6/2.0 cm's on the right. CT Scan results of abd./pelvis were: cystadenoma, cystadenocarcinoma, or complex benign cyst. Was told results were "inconclusive" by Kaiser Permanente radiologist. That these were "differential" what does "differential mean" and is inconclusive because surgery is needed? Have heard that CA-125 levels are sometimes not accurate. GYN doctor has ordered CA-125 to determine if I need to be seen sooner than Nov 3, If surgery is next, should it be hysterectomy?

Hi,
As Sandy stated in her other post to you, a Ca-125 used more to determine the cancer antigen levels in women who are already receiving chemo to see how their responding to treatment. Testing in pre-menopausal can give a false positive from other medical conditions and it's only a bit more reliable in post-menopausal women. It's all there is right now so it's better than nothing.
Your doctor will discuss the plan for surgery using all your test results and the size of you cysts combined. The size of the cysts also determine if you will  have a laparotomy as opposed to a lapraroscopy. If a cyst is large it's usually done by laparotomy because it can't fit through the smaller instruments used in belly button surgery.
I know this is a lot to try to digest right now, but try to take it one day at a time and keep in mind that 95% of ovarian cysts are benign. If you can fill out some information on your profile it would help us know more about you to answer your questions.. we're all just regular ladies here that have had cyst and surgeries for cysts that try to give each other information and support. There is a woman on the boards who also had 2 of one type of these cysts and had surgery not too long ago, she can give you more about it when she sees the post. In the meantime, if you go to the Heath Pages at the top of the cyst forum you'll find a lot of information on the ovarian cyst link.
You mention your gyn is sending you for the Ca-125 to see if you need to be seen before Nov.3. Is he referring you to a Gyn/Ono? That's a very good thing as they have 3 more years experience than a regular gyn.
Good luck
Valerie
