how big is big?

i have a dermoid tumor (adnexal mass) near, on, or around my right ovary. it measures 7.4 x 7.4 x 6.2 cm. i got these results from my transvag. ultrasound from my lpn sister in law who could access it on her comp. at work. i have an appt. with a very reputable gyn. friday the 30th to discuss these results and the course of action to take. since i have these results with no real doc to discuss it with yet, i'm freaking out. does anyone know if this is considered a large mass and would i lose my ovary? i don't plan on having any children so i don't think i would miss it, but then i read the tumors can re appear and there would go my left ovary, right? help

My gynecologist starts removing cyst when they are 4.5cm.  Yours is quite big.  I have an 8cm complex cyst and the doctor told me that was pretty big.  It is about the size of an orange.  Dermoid cysts do not dissolve on their own.  You will probably need surgery to remove it.  Please keep in mind that everyone recovers from surgery different.  You may sail right through it.  Good luck and please let us know what your doctor says on Friday.  Prayers to you.

i'm sorry you miscarried, that must have been horrible on top of everythng else.
i do have pain and bloating and sex is very painful...not sure if it's because this thing is putting pressure on other organs or what. i also have an enlarged cervix with nabothian cysts on it...so that may be causing the pain. what ever it is, after seeing these monstrous dermoids, i want the thing out!!! i'm just concerned over the recovery time after surgery. i work with 3 yr. olds in a daycare and i'm always bending over, and lifting them up and all that.
thanks for your reply, btw, was your surgery a laproscopy or the other one i can't remember the name of that is more invasive?

I had a dermoid that was 9 cm. It was HUGE! I was also pregnant with it. I miscarried, and then I had the surgery. I regret ever having the surgery as it as been really hard recovering from it. I am going on 9 weeks. If it is causing you pain, then remove it, but think of everything you can to NOT have surgery. They were not able to save me ovary. I have went to over 5 doctors and all of them have said that there is a 15-20% chance of a regrowth on the other ovary.
