lower right quadrant pain

i am a 40 year old female -- had my appendix removed 5 years ago when I had an ovarian cyst removed because it was causing severe pain in lower right quadrant.  Last week i had a period and began experiencing severe lower right quadrant pain.  I thought ok just cramps however the pain has continued after the normal cramps would have gone away it is now a radiating pain that is in my thigh and lower back seems to feel like someone is stabbing me -- any suggestions I am thinking it may be another cyst but am wondering if it might be something else

Hi Jess,
I am 40 as well and I also had a giant cyst removed from my right ovary about 2 years ago.  My doctor saved as much of my ovary as he could, but the little bugger decided to grow an even larger cyst this time.  Although my symptoms were a little different than you describe, I definitiely encourage you to demand an ultrasound.  It sounds like something isn't completely normal.  Take care!

HI,
The pain in the right lower quadrant can be due to ovarian cysts, pelvic infection, endometriosis etc. An examination with your Doctor and an ultrasound scan will help make the diagnosis. In the meantime you may get relief with antispasmodic medicines.
Take care and good luck.
