Ovarian Cyst and colon infection

I was recently taken in to the emergency room with the "appy shuffle" only to find out I had a burst ovarian cyst that was the probable cause to a large colon infection.  I was treated by IV for pain and antibiotics, given prescriptions and I followed up with my personal MD.  I am concerned about a relapse.  I had my menstrual cycle 5 days after the cyst was diagnosed, and I had to take a prescription pain med to get over the burning pain in the ovarian area.  I was doubled over in pain and vomiting from it.  Is this going to happen every month, and will I also be at risk for colon infection if the cysts keep appearing outside the normal monthly cycles?

Just got back from my 30-day check up.  I have had two menstrual cycles during this issue so far.  I have learned to enjoy Vicodine for the first one that started 3 days out of the ER.  The second is tolerable with motrin.

Doc says I am progressing well.  I won't be completely okay until Fall but healing.  There is still a lot of concern over the cyst but no signs of a return to date!

I am listening to the doctor.  I am drinking a ton of water, eating ground flax seed in my smoothies, 30+ grams of fiber, high protein, no red meat.  It seems if I keep my colon healthy and empty, my ovary is not as irritated.  I especially eat this way around ovulation & during my cycle.  It helps a lot.  I thought this was an odd path to take but I have never felt better.

Colon issues can be a direct irritant with ovarian cysts.  Your colon puts pressure on the area and can increase irritation.  In my case, they aren't 100% sure that the colon didn't cause the ovary problem or at least, intensify the problem.

Your symptoms are also the symptoms of cysts - it doesn't need to rupture to hurt.  You should follow up with your ob/gyn.

THIS IS BIZARRE!  I was admitted the same exact day as your post.  I went in with severe stomach pain, fever, runny bottom, etc.  During my CT, they also found an ovarian cyst, but they did not say anything about it rupturing.  They say I have to have it removed.  I went through CT, Ultrasound, Colonoscopy, EKG, Blood work, all relevent tests.....I wonder if there is something going on they do not realize with me that could be similar to your situation!
