scared :(

Hi people! I'm 23yrs old and have been diagnosed with an ovarian cyst on my right ovary which is 12x13x8 is this large for a cyst? I have been booked in for op on nov14th where they gona try laprascopic but may have to do the other way (I was 2 scared 2 really understand/take in what was being said 2 me) is it really possible 2 remove a cyst that size through a tiny incision? Also how long off work? I'm on my feet all day for about 9-10hours with a lot of bending and heavy lifting however my manager seems to think I will be back after a week! Is this correct? Also I will b due my period on date of op, will this interfere with anything? All answers greatly appreciated x

this is actually my second time round, i had the same done last year, the cyst had come back because a part of it was left in, and it grew! the cyst was just a normal cyst, nothing dangerous, im not a big fan on those big medical words, so i cant help you on that one!!!! im hoping this time its just the same, i get the results in a few weeks time for this one! I did have gas pains, its quite uncomfortable, but its only for a couple of seconds at a time! check out "the top 10 things i learned about laparacopy" thread, its quite funny and should be helpfull for you.  why not go back to your doctor and get all the right info you need to stop you from worrying??

Did u suffer with any gas pains after op?

ive just had a cyst removed on my right ovary, 4 days ago. it was 7cm. i had laparascopy 3 tiny incisions, 1 at the belly button and 2 lower down at each side, i was in a little pain after the surgery but nothing extreme, i was on my feet that night, to the toilet and back to bed!! i was out of hospital the day after and in my own bed. now four days on, im still finding it a little hard to stand up and bend down but while im up, im ok. take 2 weeks off, youll feel ready to go back to work before that but no heavy lifting!! your health becomes before your boss!!

I'm really not sure what sort of cyst the letter stated serous or mucinous cystadenoma but I haven't got a clue what that even means. Haven't really had a lot of info or the info I have had did not sink in with the shock! As I mentioned earlia the dr had said open surgery but I then asked if it ws possible for keyhole but he said it was 2 large but they will at least give it a shot

what kind of cyst do you have? I have a 7.5 X5.9x4.9 dermoid cyst and I am experiencing the same symptoms that you mentioned, back pain like stabbing for few seconds and it comes and goes a lot. I am having an open surgery because the dr. is afraid the cyst would rupture during the laparoscopy and since mine is a dermoid cyst which contains fat teeth hair he said it would be safer to remove it through an open surgery.. I am not sure how long it is for recovery for me though.. I wish I do..

All I remember them sayin was the size and that they weren't sure if it was seros or mucinous cystadenoma until it is removed. The pain is normally only a short stabbing pain every now and then but currently I am rolling the floor with hot water bottle but this seems to be because of my period which I never used 2 suffer from! I suffer really badly with a bad back where it feels like something is weighing me down they sent me 2 physio for it but now they seem to think that it could b my cysy pushing on spinal nerve. Other than the bad back and the pain during periods I don't have any other symptoms. Just wishing it was over and done with! Orignally when went to gyno he said it wud have 2 b removed thru a cut across my bikini line but I then asked about keyhole so he said that they would try that way first.

I am a 54 year old and I was diagnosed with a complex septated ovarian cyst.
The cyst is 4.8 x 3.6x 2.8.  I don't know any details yet as I don't have an appointment until September 30.   It increased to the 4.8 in 7 weeks.   So I imagine it will be larger than this when I go to the Gyne.  I have searched the net for answers to my question.  What I have found is that if the cyst is complex that they usually remove them.  If they do it laproscopically, the recovery time is relatively short.  It they do it abdominally, I was only off work for 3 weeks after my hysteretomy, so I would think it would be basically the same recovery period.   Have they told you if the cyst is complex or functional?  I am very worried myself, but my cyst is relatively smaller than yours but I still have right abdominal pain, back pain and leg and foot pain.   I sometimes am nauseated.  I understand these are common symptoms.  Have you experienced any of these?
