Ovarian Cyst Rupture

Last tuesday I had a right ovarian cyst rupture.  I woke up about 4:30am in really bad pain.  I went to the ER and they did a CT scan showing the rupture.  They gave me hydrocodone and I already had some for nausea.  I have called into work three days since, because I still have some pain and feel nauseated.  The meds make me tired and I fall asleep for a couple of hours.  The doctor said to call back in a week if there is still pain and I feel nauseated.  Does anyone know what they will do?

I called my doctor yesturday and he gave me some more pain medicine.  When I seen him last friday he mention birth control.  The nausea has pretty much gone away. Just everyonce in a while it comes and goes.  I haven't had any pain today.  There is still a little discomfort but I am pretty sure the pain is gone, I hope.  Looking back to times when I could not explain why I felt sick and was fine a few hours later, I now know it was ovarian cyst. I have had this happen multiple times since I was 13.  I guess I should talk to my doctor and ask him some question.  Thank you for your help.

A ruptured cyst can cause extreme pain for 2-3 days, and discomfort for a week.  My experience was that it lasted that day and then just an achiness.  It is possible that you had more than one cyst and it is causing you pain.  Give your doctor a call back and let them know that your pain is not getting any better.  They may want you to go have another ultrasound so they have the results when you go back for a recheck.  It is possible that the dr may want to put you on birth control to help control your cysts.  Good luck, and please keep us informed on how you are doing.

First of all, I'm sorry that you're still in pain.
Secondly-- It is entirely possible that if you're still in pain after a week, you could have another cyst.  Normally, once a cyst ruptures & you have free fluid you'll have some discomfort for a week. Which is why they'd want to check you again after then.  Most likely, they'll just order up an ultrasound to see what's going on.
Hope you feel better soon!
