Back from my PMP appt.

It went ok I guess, I really need some input from you guys. I really don't know what to do or think.
He came in and asked me how I was doing, I said not very well and left it at that (sandee lol) He said what meds are you on I said none. He said how long you been off of them I said 4 weeks. He asked me why I didn't want the morphine that the back up dr wanted to give me I told him I am scared to be on hard stuff since I will be living with this pain for maybe the rest of my life, he said why cause of what happen the last time you was on it? I said yes but Im afraid I will get use to the meds if I start out with the hard stuff. He said "I am the dr I will treat you the way I feel is best and if I do put you on the hard stuff as you call it and you need to get off of it I will slowly take you off of it so you won't have any problems" I said I am willing to do anything that you want me to do. he said ok I am starting you off on the hard stuff, I am putting you on methadone, you take 2 a day for the first week and then 3 day day after that. I was like crap but I didn't say anything. I will do anything he tells me to I will try it. I said can I please get a nerve block??? I asked him 2 times first time he ignored me the 2nd time he said "Im not sure about the nerve block right now, I don't think it is a good idea but I will talk to the dr that does them and see what he thinks but right now no you can't get one, I don't want this pain worse and your in alot of pain right now"
Ok so he tells me to try the methadone for a week and if the side effects are to bad to call them but i won't do that. He also said he will see me again in 4 weeks. hum ok I got my appt that the guy made and I go back on Aug 9th that is what karen said only 2 1/2 weeks so I will stay on it til I see him again.
He also told me if I don't do will with the methadone that he will start the morphine and I really dont want to be on that anymore then the methadone. Any thought from you guys would be great. I am let down from the appt cause I don't want to be on this hard stuff at all but I have to stay with this dr and I have no choice but to do what he says.
Thanks
Jamie

I called and told them about the rash and the vomiting. She said she is going to call the dr asap and let him know and asked what pharmacy I use. Maybe they can give me something stronger for the rash? I asked her if I should take my morning dose and she said no not to take it at all so I am not. I also asked my pharmacy if my dr tells me not to take the methadone anymore if they can take it back and get rid of it, they said it is a good idea and they do it for pain meds but keeps no record of it but they can call the dr and tell them how many I turned in but she said most of the time the drs want it. I got 83 of them yesterday and I have 81 left. I did remind them that I couldn't take them before cause they make me sick.
I will wait and see what they say.
Thanks

Jamie,

No one can help an allergic reaction. Don't even fret over it happening. I recently had an allergic reaction to a medication I had taken previously at least 4 other times without incident. The last time, however, my lip swelled up and had tingling in my mouth. It can happen to anyone.

Your doctor will not doubt you at all. Let us know how it goes. Hopefully he can prescribe something quickly so that you can finally get some relief.

Jamie,
You need to remind the Dr. aboaut the reaction that you had previously to taking the Methadone. He does have a lot of patients and you are new he might need to be reminded of what happened previously!!

Im still itching. I was up til 3am puking and itchig. I called the pharmacy this morning and they told me not to take another dose and call the dr. So I am getting ready to do that. I still have the pictures on my phone and it is dated when I took them. When I was shaving this morning it felt good which is odd so when I got out I looked and it is on my legs too.
I really hope no one doults me, I really really want this to work and if the dr happens to say to keep taking it then I will. I only want to feel better. with me puking it has made my pain even worse. I don't think i got enough in my system for it to help with the pain.
I feel like total crap right now
Thanks

Hi Jamie,

I was going to comment on the employer notification until I saw the photo's of your rash. Now I think your rash is the most urgent issues. IF this did not begin until after you took the methadone DO NOT take another tablet until you have consulted a physician or medical care provider. Hold on to those photos. Are they date and time stamped?

I have huge allergies to most ATBs and some narcotics. An allergic reaction general appears as a hive-like rash. I cannot tell if your rash is hive-like but it most certainly is a rash. You must feel like, What next??

A heat rash is usually fine and more prominent in the warm areas of your body. It should not include your arms. I know this is late but if you have any trouble swallowing, breathing or if you notice swelling around your face area you must go to ER.

Regarding notification of your company, read your handbook. I was a Corporate Director of HR over 5 businesses until two years ago. My husband is a VP of HR for a large multi-site International Company. Handbooks, Policy Manuals or whatever your company may call them is your rule book. If it states that you must report any prescription use of a controlled substance to your HR Department that is what you must do. But remember it is none of your co-workers business what you are taking. You are under no obligation to inform them (co-workers) of your medical condition or medications. In fact the less they know probably the better.

Your Human Resource Department is under strict laws to keep any medical information that you provide them confidential. Even they are bound by HIPPA when it comes to medical information. So read that handbook and follow it. In my companies you were able to work while taking a prescription narcotic is several positions. However the HR department determined what those positions included based on job descriptions/duties.  So again read what your handbook has to say regarding prescription narcotics. In all instances the employee was required to inform an HR Representative. But policies differ from company to company.

How's the rash this morning?
