Dynasplint

Has anyone had any success using Dynapslints for TKR?  I just got mine, and so far all they have done is kept me awake at ngiht and caused tremendous swelling in my knee.  Rep says it is because my thigh is retaining water, and the pressure is sending it to my knee.  What?  Any advice?  My big problem is swelling in the knee and limited ROM bending the knee.  I am 8 weeks post surgery and have 102 degrees bending at Physical Therapy and 3 degrees from being extended flat.  Rep says that is only because of the therapy and won't stay that way without the splints.

Hi, I hope you have gotten more comfortable with your Knee Dynasplint. As always, consult with your doc and therapist. I checked with our Dynasplint National Sales Traainer who is also a PT, and here was his comment: If you are using a Knee Extension, loosen the non-working cuffs-the shin cuff and the front of thigh cuff (they are labeled) . If you are using an Knee Flexion, loosen the butterfly strap but keep 2” counterforce and calf cuff and wear it intermittently throughout the day instead of at night.
Please let us know how you are doing!

Hi Jschaa,

Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Management Community. I am glad that you found us and took the time to post.

I have seen Dynapsplints implemented in post-op TKR cases. It's fairly widely used and usually has pretty good results. But we are all different.

Discuss this with your surgeon. If your surgeon thinks this will be a good option for you what do you have to lose? You can also discuss this with a good physical therapist. Those will be your best sources for information.

Please let us know how you are doing....and what you decide and the results. We'll look forward to hearing from you again.

Take Care,
~Tuck
