Headache question

I have suffered from headaches for many years, but this headache is different; not at all like my migraines or anything. It always starts in the same spot; in the back of my head just between my left ear and the middle of my neck.
Sometimes it will radiate upward to the top, but not often. I also get these warm sensations from that area, almost like warm water flowing in my head.

I get light headed; sometimes dizzy. I can’t think straight sometimes, even after the headache is gone. My vision gets blurred once in a while and only for a second, but often enough that I notice. I have difficulty with short term memory; I am more tired than I used to be, even after having a good 7 or 8 hours of sleep. I find that I lose my balance every now and then and sometimes I drop things or knock something over. I have a hard time concentrating sometimes.

These symptoms occur when I have the headaches, but sometimes they continue even after the headache is gone. Especially the short term memory, the balance and light headedness. My appetite is not what it used to be either; could that be from the headache as well? Could this just be stress related?

Hello Sue,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am very sorry to hear about your headaches and accompanying symptoms. You must be very concerned and a bit frightened. My heart goes out to you.

While you are more than welcome here I think your questions and concerns will be better addressed on our Migraine and Headaches Community. I encourage you to post there also. I have copied the link for you.

Your symptoms could be related to a number of disease process of conditions. Yes there are also the obvious diagnostic tests that should be considered. However there are no physicians on the forum. So though we can guess at what may be happening only a skilled medical provider can offer you a diagnosis. Given your symptoms I strongly encourage you to see you PCP as soon a possible, unless you are already being treated by a specialist. Therefore whom ever is treating your headaches would be the physician to contact. Please don't ignore them.

I wish you the very best and hope that you will let us know how you are doing. More importantly consult your physician and please post in our Migraines and Headache Forum.

I'll be thinking of you.

Best of Luck to You,
~Tuck

First of all, I'm so very sorry that you've been suffering from this headache. I know exactly what you're going through; right before I was induced with my son who is now almost 2 months old, my miraines were causing fainting, blindness that would last almost all day, and numbness and tingling in my arms, face, and neck....and once or twice I experienced severe confusion and an inability to speak clearly or remember simple things like words I used on a regular basis. So I know exactly what you mean with the weird symptoms.

It could be stress related...all of those symptoms CAN be associated with worsening migraines as well. However, they can also be symptoms and signs of something much worse. do you have a neurologist or head pain specialist who treats your migraines? You need to make an appointment with your regular physician if not and ask for a referral. You will most likely need a head CT and an MRI at the least, and they will probably do a full blood panel to make sure nothing out of the ordinary shows up there. i must stress that you need to schedule an appointment as soon as possible just to be on the safe side. loss of coordination and memory problems are considered serious symptoms and need to be evaluated by your physician or headache doctor asap.

I wish you the best and I hope that your bizarre symptoms and worsened headaches are just a temporary thing....if you need to ask any questions about headaches or treatments, or anything like that I would be glad to help you with what I can. I'm no doctor but I've been suffering with them all my life and headaches like you described have been a new staple in my life on a daily basis and it's simply awful. I'm hopefully going in for another head CT and MRI soon as well since my symptoms changed.

Please let me know what happens with you!
