Hi Purrm3,
Both above responses are correct in that we all react differently to medication, all medications not just opiates. Just to clarify do you mean Oxycodone or Oxycontin? There is a difference as you know.
Methadone did very little in reducing my pain. Personally I would not suggest adding a stimulant just to remain on methadone. Please don't misunderstand me. I am not saying it's a bad choice. I'm just stating my personal opinion. I believe the less meds we have to put in our bodies the better.
I was on Oxycodone. Once my system adjusted (several days) it did not make me fatigued. As stated above how your system will react may be totally different from mine or someone else. If it does cause issues be sure to discuss it with the prescribing physician.
I wish you the very best. Please let us know how you are doing.
Take Care,
Tuck
I cannot say how oxycodone will make you feel in comparison with methadone. I can however, share that in my experience, oxycodone is a much less debilitating medication. It causes less somnolence than methadone, and is not as effective as a pain medication.
For some who get great analgesia from methadone, other medications can help with the side effects. For example, I used ritalin for the years I was using methadone. It kept me from falling asleep behind the wheel, and improved my ability to reason, greatly.
If the methadone is a good pain reliever (for me, it was the best), ask your doctor if he/she would be willing to try a stimulant medication like long acting methylphenidate or Adderral XL to minimize your methadone side effects.
Best wishes.
We're all so different and respond to medications differently. It's really hard to give you an answer to this question. Some people might feel tired on this medication while others just feel pain relief and little to no tiredness.
If you happen to feel overly tired talk to your Dr about decreasing your dose, at least for a little while until you get more used to the medication, if that's an option.
