That is true, it broke his heart but his dad said he would go to treatment with him and turned the boat around to take him home. It was really sad.

I wonder how the son (Jake) felt knowing that the last thing he did to his Dad (Phil) was try and steal his pain medication?
I struggled with addiction for a time (I'm now a recovering addict), and I'm not sure I could live with myself if I knew that the last thing on my Dad's mind was "My son tried to steal the pain meds that are keeping me going"...
That being said, the silver-lining here is that the very last thing that Jake did was come clean about his addiction to his Dad.
It is EXTREMELY SAD!!
I feel so sorry for the entire family.

I knew he was smoking alot but man he was sitting there for months and months at a time, so I guess smoking helped keep up awake or not bored.
I didn't know he was smoking that much a day. He will be missed and I know I watched the show because of him.
As for his son, he knew hew as doing wrong by stealing his dads pain meds and I could tell on the show he was high. right before they he was caught stealing the meds he fell in the holding tank for the crabs. He knew it was there and wasn't watching anything he was doing. So sad.

Hi Jamie:
Yes, I watch the show. Phil actually passed away a few months ago. I believe it was back in March. It's a sad thing to loose anyone, especially so suddenly like that. Phil was very unhealthy with his bouts of Blood Clots and his 4 pack a day cig. habit. It was bound to happen.
My best,
Molly
I saw when Phil passed away awhile back on MSN.com and thought then how very sad it was. He actually requested that EVERYTHING be shown on the show. They were going to stop filming and he had them continue when he was in the hospital.
They never mentioned then about his son and the addiction. That is so very sad and you can't help but wonder if that had a bearing on the stroke happening sooner than it otherwise would have. I feel very sorry for his son as he will have to live with this for the rest of his life and even if he wasn't to blame for it I would imagine that he will always blame himself in some way. A VERY sad situation!!
I hope that your day goes well!!! (((HUGS!!)))...Sherry
