Knee/Leg Pain

Hello!

New to here, but hoping I can find some additional help to a reocurring pain I'm having.

I'm having an aching type of pain in my right knee, just under the kneecap. The pain has recently begun to spread to the back part of my leg, slightly up the thigh and slightly down the calf. The real catch is that I only feel the pain when the leg is not at use. When my leg is in a bent position for a prolonged amount of time, like when driving or sitting at the office, and usually only take 20-30 minutes to began to hurt.

I've had both an X-ray and an MRI for this, but both have come back negative for ANYthing.

I'm 24, very active, and like to snowboard, skateboard, and surf, and believe it is a fair assumption that this is a sports related injury.

Thank you for your time and consideration in reading this, and I hope someone out there may have some insight! Thanks!

Thank you! I have scheduled a future appointment with my doctor, and plan on bringing all of these possibilities up! I have also been doing research on each of them!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
I am sorry to hear you are in pain. If the pain comes on keeping the knee bent for some time, then it could be due to Patellofemoral syndrome. This happens due to malialignment of the knee cap on bending the knee (and hence any imaging study has to be taken with the knee bent), injury to the knee (you may have sustained it in past), flat feet, over tight or over lax muscles around the knee joint. All these aspects will have to be investigated by your doctor.
Other possibilities are bursitis (inflammation of fluid filled sac over joints), tendonitis (inflammation of cords joining muscles to bones) or due to weakness of patellar bone. Please discuss all these possibilities with your treating doctor. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
