Knee Replacement

A friend had his knee replaced yesterday.  Last night & this morning he suffered excrusiang pain. His wife asked his physician why not give him a pain killer that can reduce his agony to discomfort.  She was told that they have given him all of the pain killers that they could.  My question is this, how in 2009 can we not have a drug that can make you pain free or at leat reduce the pain to uncomfortabe?

Hi again:)
If your friend had his surgery done by his surgeon and he will not help with pain management then have him call his PCP.
I can't believe his surgeon will not help control his pain. Maybe do as I suggested and just go to the doctors off ice that did the surgery and let his assess his pain in person rather than on the phone.
I hope this helps.

Your friends doctor should be treating his pain. Pain after surgery can be painful.
I would advise calling the doctor back and telling them he is coming in as he is in so much pain!
This will allow the doctor to see himself the pain he is in. Did he have his PCP do the sugery or a surgeon?
He can also go to the ER and get some help.
