Neck/Upper Back Pain! Help

Over 6 months ago I was thrown into a wall by another person. I was fist diagnosed with a stiff neck and told I'd be fine in 2 days by the doctor in the ER. I continued to have headaches that caused me not to be able to focus on what others were saying so I went back to another doctor. There I was diagnosed with musle spasms and a whiplash type injury. I was placed into physical therapy for 4 months and sent to a sports medicine doctor then recenly to a pain management doctor. The pain management specialist gave me a steroid epidural which has not helped one bit except now I have upperback pain as well. I have had xrays and a MRI which both say that I am fine. However, I continue to have neck pain and dibilitating headaches that make in hard for me to even function. All I keep getting told is that I have a whiplash injury and my muscles are tight. However after 6 months of dealing with this something has to give. I can not live with this bad of pain. What else can I do?  Help now not only am I having horrible headaches I'm having upper back pain below the injection sight that is bringing me to  tears. I can't take this!

Hello Icous,

Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you found us and posted. However I am very sorry to hear that you are in so much pain.

I suggest that you find a Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) that practices osteopathic manipulation treatment (OMT), which means slight manipulations of the spine or other bony structures. DO's specialize just as MD's. Some specialize in Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and so forth. In my opinion they are excellent in diagnosing your kind of symptoms. You are right you cannot and should not have to continue with this pain.

Sometimes heat and resting as much as possible can be helpful. Massage may also be beneficial. Be assertive with your needs. Please let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your updates.

Take Care,
Tuck

It sounds like a change in regimen is necessary. You're right, you can't keep living in pain. I would seek out a different dr. or specialist who can truly address your pain. I hope you're feeling better soon.
