Now that was horrible

Yesterday I woke up with a pretty bad headache and I knew it was going to turn into a migraine.  I had ran out of migraine medicine a few days before and never got around to have it picked up for me.  I will never do that again.  By afternoon I was getting the full body sweats, then chills, then sweats, to chills again.  Meanwhile I'm vomiting and dry heaving what wasn't coming up.  It was absolutely horrible and my head was pounding severely.  I had ice packs all over my head and neck.

I thought I would of been fine and could ride out the mirgraine for one day.  I was going to pick up the medicine today.  My friend had called me and I told her that I was too sick to talk and that I had run out of my Maxalt.  My friend is a life saver!  When she got off of work, she picked up my Maxalt and brought it to me.  She also brought me some hot dogs, chips and pop because I had nothing to eat in the house.

Hubby left on Wednsday and took the kids up to the cabin, so I've been here alone.  I thought that was extremely nice of my friend to go and do that for me.  I took the Maxalt and 2 hours later I crawled out of bed.  I still had a headache, but not severely as bad.

Today I'm still very much sick to my stomach, but no headache.  I will NEVER run out of migraine medicine like that again.  Maxalt is the only thing that works well for my headaches.  My last few migraines have been giving me the chills and sweats.  I wonder why that is.

I'm so grateful for my friend and for Maxalt!

I've been getting migraines ever since I was a small child.  When I was a teenager, I would get the migraines monthly and once in a while due to stress.  It wasn't until 2007 before I finally went to the doctor to get some type of medicine for the migraines.

When I injured my neck the migraines have become much more frequent and they often occur several days a week and sometimes daily.  The migraines now will start from the back of my neck.

I don't know of any real triggers for the migraines.  I get them so frequently now that I don't think there is a way to prevent them.  I do take alternative supplements that contain a fair amount of magnesium and that seems to help a little.  I will limit the Maxalt to two pills in a week.  I don't know if this medicine creates rebound headaches.  The doctor says I'm safe with taking two a week.

I have no side effects with the Maxalt.  When I take the Maxalt, it will stop the migraine an instant about an hour after taking the medicine.  The maxalt has been a miracle drug for my headaches and I normally only have to take one in a day.  This is one of the very few medicines that my body will tolerate without any problems.

The Maxalt must still be working because I'm still very sick to my stomach.  I bet I'd still have the migraine if I didn't take the medicine.  I'm so very grateful for my friend.  I will have to do something nice for her.  Two of my girls get frequent headaches too.  I'm pretty positive they will have monthly migraines when they are older.

I miss my family dearly, but it has been really nice to get this break.  I can really tell a difference with the pain.  I finally am able to get the edge off of the pain.  It had been unbearable for weeks.  I think they are coming home today, they all miss me too.

You truly have a God sent friend! They are hard to come by and I am sure that you value her. I hope you all have a good friend like that to count on when we are in dire straights!! I do and she is a blessing. I never forget to thank her. I remember her with cards and an occasional little "gift" that only a best friend could appreciate. :)

I am so glad to hear that you are having a better day! I hope that you will be feeling even better as the day progresses.

You're in my thought and prayers.

What a great friend!!!  I think unless you've ever had a migraine, you just can't even imagine what it's like.  People think it's a bad headache.  As a kid, I remember my mom getting them and she'd have to stay in a dark room with ice packs and we'd all have to be so quiet.  She'd vomit and usually that's when she'd start to turn around.

I started getting them around 17 and they lasted until my first baby at 30.  Then none for 8 years, until my last baby at 38, which was an atypical ocular migraine.  Since then I've had a couple of ocular ones and a couple of regular ones, but they were no way near as severe as when I was younger.

I believe mine were hormonal and hereditary.  My mom's side of the family all got them, and a lot of my cousins get them, too.  One of my cousins gave me a Maxalt to try and boy did it work but it also made me incredibly high for DAYS.  She didn't get a side effect like that and I remember being scared to death of how I felt.  At that point in my life, I don't think I had ever had any pain medicine other than Tylenol or aspirin.

At one point I went to a headache clinic since I was getting them so often.  I kept a food diary and headache diary but couldn't find any real connection with anything.  (One of my cousins gets one automatically if eating anything with MSG and one gets them if they have anything with aspartamane.

Do you know what triggers yours?  And have you ever had any side effects from the Maxalt?  I'm so grateful mine pretty much went away.  I'm sorry you suffer with these, but I'm glad your husband and kids were gone since at least you could rest and have quiet.  I hope by later today or tomorrow you'll be feeling back to yourself again.  Are your migraines from your neck problems?  And when you get one, does it aggravate your neck?  I'd imagine all the vomiting and dry heaving would increase your neck pain.

Be kind to yourself and take it easy today.
