Pain 12 weeks post op

Hi,
So on march 31 I had a acl, micro fractures and meniscus repair done. Recovery has been going really good, according to my pt and doc I was on the fast track to a full recovery. about 3 weeks ago I started to have massive swelling and pain with every step. I was just wondering if this is normal to regress?
Also I will be seeing the OS in about 2 weeks and he will do a MRI to check the progress of healing and make sure everything is going "fine"

anytime u have a surgery on a lower extremity..or even an injury on a lower extremity..it can take a while to heal...it is good ur dr is gonna take a look and it can help put ur mind at ease...when i was in my early 20s i sprained my ankle dancing in high heels and it took months to heal..and i was way younger than i am now..it is so hard to avoid weight bearing on ur leg/foot etc if u have a life such as work, kids, etc..u cant put it in a sling like u can an arm..it takes time..and there is a chance u  may have overdone it and need some "down time" for ur leg....c what the dr says and be sure to let it rest..hard to do in reality but that is what it takes

Things are looking better, but still in quite abit of pain. I will see the doc next week though and hopefully he will have some answers or the MRI will.

Hello and welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am sorry to hear about your slow recovery and pain.

I have a complete ACL tear that was not repaired. They did do an arthroscopic cleaning of the ends and removed some fragments. I experienced swelling for almost a year but again I did not have a repair. Recovery from an ACL repair is long and difficult and yours may be even more so with the additional repairs required.

Follow your PT's and surgeons advice but you may require some rest for awhile and have just over done it as Mollyrae suggested. Are they recommending ice, elevation and rest? It sounds like you may need to back off PT for awhile or at least slow down.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. We will look forward to your updates. Best of luck and take care, Tuck

It's possible that you've been over **** it. Any surgery takes time for the body to heal. You may have felt like things were healing fast but in reality, you may have been doing certain things too soon.

I'm sure that the MRI will reveal your progress.

Please take care,
Molly
