Question

I'm a 47 year old male who was diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma at the base of my spine in 2009.  I've had numerous surgeries, one of which caused me to lose to use of my right foot.  In order to keep my job, I had my leg amputated below the knee.  Unfortunately that operation was botched by an incompetent surgeon and I'm no better off today than I was before the operation.  Right after the amputation, the cancer came back to my lungs.  Once I'm done with chemo this time, I'm going to try to have my leg fixed.  Regardless, my question is about the amount of pain medication I'm taking.  I read the posts here and see that no one even comes close to what I take.  The Dr had a very difficult time managing my pain.  Since being diagnosed, they've tried every med known to man, but the only thing that allows me to function is Oxycodone HCL 30 mg 4 tablets every 2 hours.  That's not a typo, I take 48 30 mg Oxycodone everyday.  672 every 2 weeks.  Does anyone else take this amount, or am I just a freak of nature?

I've been going to PM since 2009.  He's the one who saved my life actually.  He is one of 2 Dr's who understood the pain I was in.  One of my oncology docs told me that I may have to live with that pain for the rest of my life.My PM doc tried everything under the sun along with my cancer docs and the pain team in Boston and this is the end result.  I work almost everyday, the chemo is the only thing stopping me from working currently.  I may be on this dose forever as crazy as it sounds.

My suggestion is make a appointment with a pain management clinic, They are ran by anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetics (who knows better about pain control than those guys?). Best of luck!
