I would talk to your docotr about other option they can offer you. Spine surgery is serious and takes a good deal of time to recover. Are you taking any medications for this?
Hello raleigh_spine and welcome to the Pain Forum:
I have had a herniation at C5-6 as well and did undergo Surgery. In my opinion the Surgery was well worth it. My left arm as well as my fingers would often get numb when driving or sitting at the computer. After many months of constant pain and numbness, I decided to have the operation. I have to tell you that it was well worth it. My pain with the exception of the surgery pain was gone along with the numbness.
The Surgeons did what was at the time called a Cage Fusion with entry from the front of the neck. It left only a small scar.
The recovery time was the worst of it all. It lasted a good three months with the aide of a neck brace which was to be worn for the entire three months.
I would recommend listening to the Doctors if they tell you that Surgery is your best option. I am completely healed and have had minimal problems with the Cervical area.
I wish I had additional advise for you. Please take care and if you have further questions please don't hesitate to ask.
My best,
Mollyrae
