SEVERE PAIN

I've been having this severe pain and swelling on my right ankle for the past 2 and half months. The X ray report showed inferior calcaneal spur,so as suggested by my Ortho.had ultrasound treatment for a week, which was of very little use to me.He asked me to wear orthotic footwear with median arch because I'm flatfeet and do hot and ice fomentations at home. Now,here the problem, starts,in the pain scale of 10,my pain is 10 ONLY.I've got a boil right on the ankle, which is taking its own time to heal,I had a kidney transplant a year back,so both my doctors, the Nephro and Ortho have given antibiotic for the boil to subside.Since I'm on immono-suppressing drugs,my healing process is very slow and I am not supposed to have any painkillers or take steroid injections for the spur. So,please tell me how to bear this torture.

My Ortho.found out yesterday that my boil is due to some infections in the swellings and not the spur,so took a smear from the boil and sent for culture,so after the results come,my actual treatment can be started,so I CAN be relieved. They wanted to find out the infection first since I'm a kidney transplant patient and I cannot take any chance whatsoever.

You're welcome, Gigi.  I hope your doctors think that this might be an option for you.  It's awful to be in pain and not be able to do anything about it.

And no, my friend is not a member of MedHelp, in fact, he and his wife are still living in the Dark Ages and don't even have a computer!  lol

Gigi, talk to your doctors about using oxycodone to control the pain.  I have a friend who had a kidney transplant, and he is on the anti-rejection drugs, and when he needs pain medication, his doctors use oxycodone (the kind without any tylenol in it).  According to his doctors, oxycodone is safe to use even with his kidney problems and his compromised immune system.  I am not sure exactly what their rationale is, but if you talk to your doctors, I'm sure they will explain to you why they either agree or disagree, whichever it turns out the case is.
