Sinus Infection?

I am experiencing headache pain around eyes when I move them side to side and/or up and down.  In addition, I have a chest cough.  The mucous/phlegm is not coming from nasal passages when coughing.......seems to be in chest.  My previous sinus infections symptoms always included nasal congestion which I am not experiencing at all.  Debating a trip to dr. or popping sinus headache medicine.

I once worked in a "sick building" that had been vacant a few years before any tenants occupied it.  Down here on the Gulf coast, mold is a terrific battle even in properly ventilated buildings.  With this particular building being empty for a few years, the AC wasn't run enough and the ductwork must have been packed with mold.

For four years I battled one continuous sinus infection and constant allergy symptoms.  I finally noticed that I'd feel better over the weekends or when I was on vacation, but come Monday morning the cycle started all over again.  I wasn't the only one.  We tried talking to the Powers That Were in the company, but naturally they blew us off.  They weren't about to spend thousands of dollars to clean or replace duct work in a 10-story building.

It's been almost 5 years since I set foot in that place, and I have had one sinus infection in all that time.  One.  They can be really difficult to get rid of even with antibiotics because the sinuses are almost a closed system.  My husband was on antibiotics for a sinus infection for over 6 months at one point until it all finally broke up.  He about ripped up his nasal passages passing out old, hard junk that was like a pencil eraser.

It's all too easy to blow off a sinus infection as no big deal and try to treat it with over-the-counter meds.  Those meds can work but only if it's allergies and not a true infection causing the trouble.  If it's an infection, you need antibiotics. Period.  Depending on which sinus cavities are affected, you could have pain around the eyes, teeth, cheekbones, forehead, or all of the above.

If you have recurring and frequent sinus infections, your doctor can order a CT scan of the sinuses to see which sinuses are in trouble and also if there is something else causing or contributing to the problem like too-narrow drainage channels.  Some docs will also culture mucous from the nose to see exactly what bacteria is causing the infection.

Sinus infections can cause serious trouble if neglected long enough, so go ahead and see your doctor.  Like mellie said, there's no point in being miserable all weekend if you don't have to be.

Try to get in to see the doc.  No use feeling lousy all weekend.  I had one sinus infection with no real congestion but really bad head pain and headaches, which got worse if I bent over.
