Hi Toolmaker,

I am sorry that you are faced with skin issue. This is common in ppl on steroidal therapy. Systemic steroids cause your skin to thin out. Skin thinning resulting in easy bruising called purpura, skin tearing after minor injury, slow healing are all a side effect of systemic steroid therapy.

You may eve lose some of the fatty (adipose) tissue beneath your skin. Unfortunately there is nothing that I know of that can make this better. It's just something that you will have to learn to deal with.

My father is also on steroids daily and any little brush or bump to his skin causes purpura. It looks similar to a bruise. I have asked numerous physicians and done some research on the issue but have gotten no good answers.

Protecting your skin with additional clothing as you current do can be beneficial. Making sure your home is clear of obstacles is another approach to avoiding unnecessary bumps. I know just reaching for an object and missing it can cause purpura. It is a challenge and unfortunately I know of no remedy.

If you should happen across something that helps please share it with us. I'm sure you know to monitor your skin closely and often for infections or cellulitis at these sites, another side effect of steroid therapy.  I also assume you are aware of the other side effects of long term use of steroids so please watch for them also.

Best of luck to you. Please let us know how you and doing and if anything helps in reducing the occurrence of purpura.

Take Care,
Tuck

I am not to familiar with this, you may want to post your question in the dermatology community.
I would check at GNC stores and see if they offer any type of creams that may help. It seems to me that they do.
I hope this helps. I am sorry I could not be of more help:)
