Without knowing anything about your condition or injections, it is difficult to say whether or not "nerve burning" or neurolysis will be effecting against your pain.

I live with severe spine disease, both cervical and lumbar, and have multiple problems with my spine, and therefore, multiple diagnoses.

In my case and maybe in yours, chronic back pain is a complex syndrome that can involve pain from multiple sources -- osteoarthritis of the vertebral plates, facet joint hypertrophy, spinal stenosis, discogenic pain, and myofacial pain, spondylolisthesis, and other diagnoses with strange names.

For the past 5 years, I've been receiving annual "nerve burning" procedures called medial branch neuotomy, and they are very effective in treating the severe pain originating in my arthritic facet joints.

However, this procedure only removes 50% of my pain, at best. I still live with pain from the other conditions, and for these, I require other therapies, including medication.

If you have facet hypertrophy problem in your lower back (a common source of chronic low back pain), then the injections you received were called facet injections. They are used to test the value of neurolysis.

By the way, hypertrophy is a fancy name for osteo arthritis. Sometimes this condition is called spondylosis.

If the facet injection(s) eliminated your back pain, then the medial branch neurotomy procedures will relieve your pain for a year or more. I hope that these procedures remove a large part of your low back pain.

As we both know, life is miserable with moderate to severe low back pain.

On another note, it is important to know the names of your diagnoses and treatments. Ask your doctor to write them down for you.

Best hopes for the neurotomy procedure.
