Believe it or not, it was the first surgeon who was to remove my appendix. I ended up having 2 colonoscopies because he went. too deep on two polyps and I started bleeding. After the second one, he said that he couldn't get the rest of two polyps out and he found 3 more polyps for a total of 8 . There is more to this. I did some research and found a gastro Md that did a procedure that replaced having to have half of my colon removed. Two weeks later, I had another colonoscopy. This doctor finished removing the polyps and found 7 more that the surgeon missed. That was a total of 15. went home and got back to square one. The gallbladder pain . To go back to the beginning a ct scan showed the tip of my appendix was against my gallbladder. My gp said I needed it out. It was very long and swollen. So off to another surgeon. He removed it, no relief of pain. I have no faith of ct scans. All they are is very expensive xrays. I honestly think my gp thinks that US is going back to the dark ages. I really like my doc and don't want to change. But I am going to go to a gastro. Thankyou so much for your responses. I feel so much better getting this off my chest.
Hi Barb, Phil is right, that gall stones aren't the only thing that can cause pain in that area. I only mention it because I had pain there, they did a CT, the HIDA scans, blood work, the whole nine yards. I was in the hospital for two days doing test after test. Finally when they did the ultrasound they showed up (the gall stones). Its possible that when they did the scan or tests that the weren't blocking anything or moved or who knows what, but they did find like 5 or 6 with the ultrasound finally. They could be seen right there on the screen, the tech showed them to me. I had the surgery the next day and was fine.
Have they found anything since your last post? Have they ordered any more tests? Was it a gastroenterologist that did your colonoscopy? and have they mentioned doing an endoscopy on you?
Gall stones are not the only problem that can cause pain in the common bile duct (which is no where near your appendix).
I suggest a follow-up with a board certified gastroenterologist.
Thank you so much for your responses. I have a question about the ultrasound. If the ct and hida was taken, wouldn't they have shown gallstones? I did figure out that the ct scan is not the miracle of science doctors believe it is. I also had 15 polyps removed last year in 3 colonoscopies and they never showed up on the ct scan. Long story!! I asked the dr about it and he didn't have an answer. It also depends on whoever reads the scan. Medical science has also found out you can get shingles more than once. Now there's a big debate on a high EF rate for your gallbladder. Also there is such a thing as chronic appendicitis.
Find a photo of yourself when you were pain free, preferably smiling. Bring that in, and hold it up next to your face. Hold up the picture and say "Doctor, this is me without pain," then frown and say, "...and this is me with pain."
Okay just in case humor is not allowed here, here's another idea: bring a family member or relative or 'significant other' with you to back you up. If the person you bring is a straight-forward, no-nonsense, salt-of-the-earth person and is sitting there with you when the doctor walks in, and they say, "Gee doc, Barbinpain is only half the lady she was before all of this. I hope you can fix her," that should go a long way if you're in real pain and the doc doesn't believe you.
Ask for an ultrasound, they will be able to see if you have gallstones that way, that could be causing the problems. Thats what they did for me, and they were big and obvious, while the other tests came back normal. Good luck to you.
