I also suggest that you get in to see your gynecologist as soon as possible.  Pain and heavy bleeding can be a sign of many things, including miscarriage.  I don't want to alarm you, but it is definitely a possibility.  It's especially important to check in with your doctor if this is not within  your "norm" of a period, either timing wise, pain wise, or flow wise.

In the meantime, definitely stay away from any type of pain reliever that contains aspirin or even ibuprofen - either of these can thin the blood, which can increase your bleeding problems.  Obviously, check with your physician before taking anything, but I would think something like tylenol would be your safest best.  You could also try a heating pad on your lower abdomen to see if it helps alleviate some of the pain, although when I had horribly painful and heavy periods (I had to have a hysterectomy in 1998 at age 35), I did find that even though the heating pad did help my pain a little bit, it did sometimes make my bleeding increase, so beware that that may happen.

It may be something as simple as a hormonal imbalance, but it's definitely something to be looked into.

Best of luck and keep us posted on how you're doing.

Hi,
I suggest you go see your doctor as soon as possible. Heavy bleeding in between periods like this is not normal and is a sign something is wrong. I would call and get an appointment as soon as you can to find out what is going on. Have you ever had fibroids or ovarian cyst?
