yeah -can be real bad and lead to large areas of tissue removal -even amputation... I got one on my heel (a pressure sore) whilst i had a cast on and was in a coma -it took over 12 months to close over and is still a deep hole in my heel.
Regular massage to increase blood flow would be good, and position rotation -see dr or chemist for creams, carefull what u put on broken skin... also if they have a dark or blackish apperance see a dr asap
should see a dr anyway. and also put into place a preventitive care program.
cheers T.
These are called "bed sores" and are very serious. They will, if untreated, go down to the bone.
They are caused by lack of movement. In a nursing home they are inexcuseable.
Most insurance plans will provide for a pneumatic bed that inflates and deflates at intervals upon presentation of a physician's certificate of necessity. These are useful in preventing bed sores when there is not 24/7 care available.
He needs to see a physician who specializes in wound care immediately.
Please call the doctor or take him to the doctor. Bed sores can get very serious. The doctor may give you exercises that you can help him with because they can get infected. S/he may also prescribe him an antibiotic. I'm not a doctor and we are not doctors here on this forum. We are chronic pain patients who try to help each other. I wish I could give you more advice, but my experience with bed sores is very limited. I have worked at a hospital, so I do know that they can become very serious! Please take him to the doctor.
