Most pain management doctors will have you sign a contract stating that you will not get pain meds from any other doctor. Most also drug test.

As far as what they will do that depends on what you have had don. If you have already done physical therapy or injections etc.. they will not do that again.

You will most likely have to fill out a survey when you get there to explain where your pain is and how strong it is. With that and a physical exam they will go over with you the best way to manage your pain.

The doctor most likly has his/her own way of handling new pts.
Many will start off ordering the test needed and getting your records from your other docs and then talk about what he / she is willing to do for you. They will offer you several options and if they offer meds you will sign a contract. If you have had injections in the past and they did not work they could want to try them again or they will look into other options. Every PM doctor is different.
Just be honest and don't hold anything back.
