Hello Willpower,

Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you found us and posted. How are you feeling today?

Diarrhea can be a symptom of so many things from a simple bug to a more serious issue. I doubt that Crohn's Disease would be a concern with one bout of diarrhea. However that is not to say that severe cramps and diarrhea should be ignored. And contrary to popular beliefs diarrhea should not be stopped immediately. It is our body's best defense of ridding itself of undesirable substances.

A few years ago during a local outbreak of food poisoning their were two young boys effected. One boy's mother immediately gave the child an antidiarrheal agent while the other mom let him "get it out of his system." The later survived while the other did not as the poison stayed in his system. This is not to say that you should never treat diarrhea. In my opinion you just don't do so immediately and if it continues seek medical advice rather than treat it yourself. The most important issue is knowing what is causing the diarrhea. By no means am I suggesting that you should go days with untreated diarrhea and risk dehydration which can cause additional problems by itself. So it's a find line knowing when to treat and how to treat.

If it is still continuing please go to your local Urgent Care Clinic. Food poisoning, gastritis, bacterial infections, food allergies and viruses to name a few can all cause your symptoms.

Best of luck to you and please let us know how you are do. I will watch for your updates with interest.

Take Care,
Tuck

My son had something very similar last sunday. Very bad pain and then diarhea. We had to take him to the emergency room. He had an inflamed colon. They said it was either from a virus or salmonella poisoning.  It can also be Chrohns disease or your appendix.  Don't let it go on especially if the pain is severe and the diareah persists.  Get it checked out.  My son seems better after about 4-5 days. If you've had any uncooked meat or can attribute your symptoms to something you ate that might help but again don't let it go on to long.  Hope that helps.
