What happens next ?

I have a c5\c6 disc herniation and had my last MRI in 3/07. I am a plumber/welder and naturally work takes a toll. On Monday of this week I held a rope to guide an 8" 450 lb. gate valve in place. I didn't feel different the rest of the day but in the morning my right hand fingers were numb as well as my right hand side toes. I can also feel something squishing in the middle of my neck and making popping noises. I am already taking 100mg of orphenadrine 2x's a day, 50mgs of amitriptilyne a day, and 3-10/660 hydrocodone a day for pain. I usually feel pain on my left side and that MRI showed this. Since Monday I have been in pain whether I take the pills or not. I also have been having what I call blackout spells but actually don't go out. My gait is thrown off when I first stand up then goes away. Is it possible that I have flattened the disc out totally and what should I consider doing now? I have two kids and need to work so I still have to go. Let me add the dizziness has also increased. What kind of limitations should I have now?

Hi and welcome to MH. In reading your post, the questions you are asking should be addressed by a physician. There are no Doctors in the pain forum. There is professional help however in the physician forums on MH. Go to the top of the page, click on forums and you will find it on the left hand side of the page. Good luck and I hope you get your answers.  Mollyrae

If anyone knows can an injury like this leave you paralyzed in any way? What are signs you feel before you get operated on? Is a surgery like this succesfull? Will I still be on these medications?

My doctor knows about the dizziness and blackout sensations as I like to call them. Apparently the disc when my head is positioned the right way (say looking up) is pushing into the artery that supplies blood to the back of the head causing this sensation. How do you think I could still get paid while waiting for the comp hearing? I have to pay child support and still take care of my kids when they are with me. Right now I am still waiting for the lawyer to go over final plans in which way the case will go. The comp Dr. wanted me to have another MRI and a MRA (which I never heard of) but comp won't pay for it. I guess the case is about this injury being aggravated by my job which as anyone can see  it is. I am looking for suggestions as to what I should do before the hearing comes. Thank You, sincerely for your feedback.

Don't mess around with blackouts and dizziness OR numbness and tingling - see a doctor as soon as possible.  I don't think taking limitations is going to help you at this point. Would this be a workmen's compensation case?
