Hello Huntbunt,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am glad that you found us but sorry to hear about your painful boils. Thank you Willow for offering your suggestion.

I did some reading on the subject. I learned a lot from several different articles. I encourage you to goggle "recurring boils."  They are considered a skin infection. There seems to be no definitive cure or cause for the majority of them. Hygiene plays a very small part for some ppl, over weight is not necessarily a significant factor either.  In layman's terms they are infected, pus-filled swellings in the skin that are often located in or near hair follicles. There are several types of them. It is important to obtain an accurate diagnosis as for some ppl there is a causation.

One of the treatments is antibiotics. The health care practitioner is culturing them to determine which organism is growing and therefore discover which antibiotic will best treat or kill the growth of the invading organism. When the lab results return the physician compares the results to his notes to determine if he/she has ordered the correct antibiotic to destroy the organism. If he/she has they will not call you. If they haven't they will call to change the antibiotic to the desired one. They may be the reason you have not heard from them. They most likely are initially treating you with what is called, broad spectrum antibiotics, or one that covers most organisms that typically grow on the skin.

Don't wait to hear from the specialist, call him. Make a follow-up appointment to get the lab results and ask if there is additional treatment or suggestions that they can offer. All of us must be proactive and assertive in our health care. Most physicians are busy and sometimes patients or call backs can slip through the cracks, don't be one of those.

Best of luck to you. I hope you will keep us updated on your condition and progress. I will look forward to your next post. Take care, Tuck

Hi, I have boils in different places all over the place and have found that if gotten too soon enough, and they don't get infected, the puss can be brought out with any pain. I use Boil Ease. I can tell immediately at the onset of one of these boils and if I wait till it becomes infected, I could almost shoot myself because of pain. Boil Ease to the rescue. Just keep putting this on there, the pain goes away and the cyst head is finally drawn out, you do have to do your part and mash it out however. Hope this helps.
