Weight Gain

My son weighed 9lb 5oz and was 21 inches long when he was born. He is now 4.5 months and weighs 23lbs and is 26.5 inches long. Should I be concerned about his weight? He has Silent Reflux and is on Zantac twice a day and Prevacid once a day. It seems like he eats and eats because he is in pain. What can I do to help him not gain so much weight?

Hi,  well, your baby was pretty big from the start!  Hats off to you for delivering a 9.5 pound baby dear!  Is he on his growth chart??  Is your doctor worried about his weight?

My baby had gas and reflux and I did a lot of research on it at the time.  Many boys actually have an immature sphincter muscle and will spit up almost in a violent way.  My son sure did.  They outgrow this.  I added the gas drops to a bottle a few times a day and that helped.  And I did a little abdominol massage in the tummy area and would bicycle his legs to help with the gas.  That worked for me.

Anyway, many kids are genetically a bit bigger and that is what is normal for them.  If the doctor tells you to do something about it, then you try to help this situation.  You'll occasionally hear of kids not allowed juice, etc. in those cases but those are kids older than yours.

Well good luck.  Enjoy your baby!

I believe that prevacid can cause weight gain ..seems so many babies are now diagnosed with reflux we used to call it cholic and wait for it to pass now seems they put them on meds.Still your doctor would know the answer, I think its the meds and whilst you child ius on them he may gain weight.good luck once he is off the meds he may go down to a normal weight.
