to do the vcug or not.....

my 2 y/o daughter had uti back in jan 2010 and in feb we had ultrasound done and showed mild hydronephrosis on right kidney. pedia urologist sugggested to do a vcug but we decided to hold on to it and see if this will resolve by itself. we had a 2nd ultrasound done this month and it showed to change compared to d first ultrasound, still the right kidney has mild hydronephrosis. now, imy daughter had only 1 uti incident, she had a recent ua c/s done and it all came out negative. she is a happy kid, no complaints of pain and is voiding ok. now should i send my daughter to have the vcug done, or since she is asymptomatic, ill wait and see if it will resolve on its own down the road without the fearvthat there might be an obstruction/reflux on her kidneys.

I honestly would not even attempt to give you an opinion here as I am not medically qualified to do so.  I will just tell you what I would do if it were me.

I would most definately get a second opinion. None of us wants to see our child undergo unnecessary procedures, particularly if the condition isn't causing any problems at this particular time.  I would ask my Dr. what the ramifications are of not having the procedure done, and what the possible negatives are of having it done.  Then, I would ask another specialist the same questions.  I would then weigh the pro's and con's and make my decision.  And I can tell you, my list of questions would be long.  I do think it important to have a full understanding of what can or is likely to happen should this be left.  There are a lot of conditions that may very well be anymptomatic, but that does not mean it may not cause her even more problems later for not being dealt with now.  It's very possible that is not the case with this particular condition, but again, I think it's important to have that information as part of your decision making process.

Just my opinion.  Whatever you decide, I wish you well.
