All the syptoms of PCOS but it's not..?

(this is my husbands account btw) I have been having all of the symptoms of PCOS but the ultrasound results say its not PCOS. But ive had short and missed periods for the past 3 months. Also the last one the blood was very coppery colored and smelled very strongly of amonia..? I was at the ER and they diagnosed me with a UTI and told me to get the ultrasound.  I don't have health insurance so I cannot go to an ob/gyn right now (but i am up to date with my pelvic exam and papsmear from when i was pregnant i had medicaid) if you don't have insurance you have to pay it all up front and I don't have that kind of money im in college with no job.  Any idea of what else it could be? I also posted this in the ovarian cyst forum so sorry if you've read it twice.

I had the same symptoms but I have had all the testing, did not have insurance and they did the ultrasound and the hospital as out patient and billed me.

I don't have PCOS, I have a bad cemical imbalance though. I'm on progesterone.

Wow what state do you live in were they require you to pay money upfront for services? Ilive in Pittsburgh Pa and when I was first was dignosed with PCOS I didn't have health insurance either, but here in my city everyone get treated weather you have insurance or not. Check to see at the hospital you go to have a charity that help people with no insurance to still get treated. Talk to you a social worker at the hospital who can help you. I feel no one should go without getting treated because they don't have health insurance. PCOS have so many diffetent effects so each case is different. Please try to get the treatment you need and also try your public welfare agency.

I have to agree with lynn117.  I had pcos, (had because i had a radical hyst.) ur symptoms dont seem to go with pcos.  Light periods are not common.  Heavy extended periods seem to be the norm.  Does ur school offer a health care plan?  Churches are also a good place to go.  Good luck, i know how hard it is looking for answers.

i really think a doctor visit is necessary. have you tried getting state aid? try local churches in your area. call every doctor in your area until you find one that will accept a payment plan. i wouldnt waste the money to ask the dr in the forum since your symptoms are rather varied. you could have a virus or an infection that need medication.  could you be pregnant? the internet is a great way to start but you need to see someone in person.is there a medical school in your area? maybe if you let the students poke and prod you it will be low/no cost.

Yes they have planned parenthood here, thats the first place I called bc i used to go there when i was in high school but they have changed their billing procedures. They told me they no longer bill at all and i'd have to bring in $150 for a full work up of tests and a pelvic exam, etc. I dont have any of the other symptoms, ive got very thick hair on my head, and dont have a problem with excessive hair anywhere else. im guessing its not pcos either.  lately ive been getting severe back pain, and constant diarhea (rarely do i have solid stool), however i dont know if those symptoms are related. Thanks for writing back, you're the only one that has and i've asked on here and in yahoo answers. Ive been trying to post on the ask a dr forum but they are always "at the daily max" i even got up really early one morning and it was still at the max! I think they are maxed out!

i dont have insurance either so that $160 would be grocery money and a big deal to me also. i have had medical problems that i have had to ignore due to the inability to pay so believe me i completely understand! from my knowledge pcos doesnt affect either the color or odor of your period. usually periods tend to be very irregular, heavy, and spotty frequently. many pcoders have weight problems or inability to loose weight or sudden weight gain. they tend to carry their weight around the waist. there can be issues with too much body hair or not enough head hair. most pcod patients have some degree of ovarian cysts. we tend to have higher risks for high blood pressure and sugar levels. if you dont have some of the other problems you probably dont have pcod. if there is a planned parenthood in your area or a clinic at your school call them. many clinics have a sliding scale based on income.

Short (like 2-3 days) periods, coppery colored blood that smelled of amonia (very strongly), clots...I had never heard of PCOS until the Dr. at the ER brought it up even though I told him my periods had been normal since they started in the 6th grade.  I cannotget the full results of the US being that I can't pay the $160 up front, all they would say is you dont have pcos but you need to go to to a regular OB/GYN. I know $160 may not seem like a lot of money to u but I'm a college student with a son, and I havn't got that kind of extra money!! It will take me a bit to save it up and so I was just wondering if anyone had these syptoms (I know they're kind of broad), or know what else it might be?  I havnt really gotten any ideas from looking up my symtoms.

what are our symptoms? missing or abnormal periods alone are in most cases not pcod.  it usually is not a sudden thing. most people have had various symptoms from the teenage years on.
