Is there really nothing I can do?

I went in to my Doctors office two days ago for results on an HPV test and an ultrasound for a cyst. I am positive for HPV, the cyst was shrinking and I was told that it was not of any concern but that my right ovary looked as though it were made of fibrous tissue. Then she started discussing PCOS with me and that at this point they can't do anything until it progresses and that the only way of curing it is that have a hysterectomy. I was told I could have procedures to remove cysts but that they would always come back. I don't want to just sit around and wait, my Doctor said not everyone that looks as though they have fibrous tissues ends up with PCOS. Is there really no test? Nothing I can possibly do? I have noticed my hair is falling out quite a bit but I was told that this was most likely just stress from being a new mother.

I'm not sure...it doesn't really make sense. Are you sure she was talking about the ovary, not the cyst?

fibrous tissue
the common connective tissue of the body, composed of yellow or white parallel elastic and collagen fibers.

Thanks very much, I made an appointment with a different Doctor today and will be getting a hormone test. A little annoyed that my Doctor did not suggest a test after telling me I could possibly have it. The cyst that I had checked on my left ovary was about the size of a golf ball but they noted it was reducing and had I not had it checked again they would not have noticed the right ovary. She had said that it did not have the look of a normal ovary. Are there other reasons why my ovary would appear fiberous?

Well, there really is no "cure" for PCOS because it will always be there no matter what. I mean yes a total hysterectomy would make PCOS go away, but your only 23 years old. As for tests to confirm PCOS, well blood tests are normally more effective then unltrasounds because you need to check to see if any of your hormones are abnormal. There are plenty of women who have cysts that do not turn into PCOS. Most cysts with PCOS are tiny and ALLOT in the ovaries...not one. The hair falling out, yeah that happens after you have a baby. My friend just had her baby on 9/18 and is noticing more hair falling out then normal.

Your doctor needs to do blood work first. And PCOS is not cureable...but it is treatable. So follow up with the doctor.
