I never had regular periods but wasn't diagnosed with PCOS until I was trying to get pregnant. I had bloodwork done and had an elevated LH FSH ratio. Had twins via IVF. Now I'm done reproducing and just wondering whether or not I should try to manage my hormone levels.
The husband is getting a vasectomy, so contraception isn't really an issue.
I'm 28 years old and haven't had any symptoms of PCOS. I have a little more body hair than I want, but nothing dramatic and I'm content with the way things are as long as they don't get worse! I have ovarian cysts, but never knew it until I had an ultrasound, so I don't really care about managing that.
I guess what I'd like to know, from any PCOS experts out here, is
A) at my current age of 28.. are PCOS symptoms likely to worsen with time or am I likely to get new symptoms as I get older?
B) are there any particular birth controls that would prevent this from happening?
If I were choosing a birth control w/o having PCOS, I'd likely opt for a mirena IUD ... but that's a progestin birth control and I know that PCOS symptom that I most want to avoid getting (excess hair growth) is linked to higher testosterone/progesterone levels.. so maybe I should go on a birth control that contains estrogen?
Any thoughts? experience?
In the past, I've been on OTC, which I hated because it cause mood swings every weekend!
OC - which was fine, although I hate taking a daily pill
Seasonale - which was good.. daily pill *****.. but I liked only getting my period infrequently
nuva-ring - good, but a little weird.
