ovarian cysts question

hello to all i have a couple of quick question: 28yr

1: I have had cysts for a really long time since i believe i started puberty. i was ahving alot of pain and they did a sonogram at the ER and they said that I had  cysts that were in clusters and they were popping and that what was causing the pain well all they did was give me pain meds. I have a drs appt tomorrow can anyone tell me if this sounds serious. I also had my last mentral in Dec. and am NOT pregnant i had to do blood work at the ER. Can all these cysts be causing me not to have a period. Ovarian cancer does run in my family actually every woman on my side of the family has numerous problems with their ovaries. Im so fed up and would like some kind of help or direction

Sick in tired or being sick and tired......

Yes having cysts can cause you not to have a period. The clusters you refered to, sounds like you have PCOS. Most of us have cysts, although some of us do not. Birth control pills do help. They will cause a period each month and sometimes they do clear up the cysts. Follow up with your gyn, the ER docs generally don't know much about that area so all they do is give pain meds and thats it. See your gyn on the options you have for making the cysts go away and other meds you can take. Make sure you tell your doctor about your family history, so he/she will make the approite choices on any further testing.
