I thought I was naming my daughter a name that no one would have in school when I had her four years ago. I named her piper now when my girls started school there are like four or five. I also though Sophia had its time and would make my daughter have a name no one else would have and there are like 10 that I know of between our neighbor and the two schools of kids my daughter's age. At least I have one name that I would never have to worry about my child having to share, my second child has the name prudence. There is nothing wrong with names that will make your kid an individual in school and around their peers. But some kids would be better off being named Ruth or David.
All I have to say is its no ones business except the parents and maybe more of the family members of the child. I don't want my daughter to be one of five christinas in her grade. I think unique names build stronger character. Not to say more common names don't belong to amazing people. But you know what? I think I know 50 different Davids and even within our family there are so many we have to differentiate by their spouses. So I am more than happy to give my children unique names! Hooray
Maybe because those names are so over rated already, I for instance love unique and different names.... I'm naming my son Landon Jacob which isn't too different but not like all the rest....
I've never seen MY name (with my spelling) on any nameplates or novelty items growing up, but there were 3 Shayna's in my high school while I was there (two spelled with a Y and one spelled with an I). My husband and I have picked out 4 children's names (2 girl and 2 boy) and the boys names are very common, whereas the girls names are a little more unique. Regardless of anything, my last name is so complicated that ANY first name will be a breeze in comparison. :-)
My daughters name is Allison Rose and we are naming this one Aniyah Grace :) not crazy 1st names but not all that common. I went to high school with like 30 Ashley's and Kaitlyn's so super common was not going to happen for us. I've never met anyone my age with my name only adults and ppl in nursing homes. My niece has a Skyla, Ainsley(boy), and a mialee(pronounced miley) in her class... Kinda weird names. IMO.
I don't think it's really your place to judge what a weird name is..what a rude comment
