TTC for so long must be heartbreaking. I have NO experience with Clomid BUT went through years with PCOS & ended up pregnant a few times. HPT CAN give false negatives, as well as false positives. When I was pregnant with my oldest daughter the HPT didn't come back positive until I was 10 weeks 5 days pregnant & had already had the blood test. Your best bet is a blood test as they are set to catch ANY level of HCG where as HPT tests are set to only catch levels over a certain amount.
Wishing u all the best
Melissa
I too am so sorry you have been through so much. Stay strong though...it took me over 3 years, but I finally had a beautiful baby boy last year at 40.
I was only on clomid for a very short time (4 or 5 cycles), but did not have any success with it. In about 20% of women, it can actually prevent pregnancy. Also, I ovulated later then I did without it, and my entire cycle was longer. So I wonder if a lengthened cycle is not accounting for an innacurate progesterone test. It would make sense to me.
It is always possible to get a false negative on an HPT. However, to be honest, if used according to directions, and used after you should have started your period, they are pretty accurate. That did not used to be the case, but with today's technology, they are pretty good.
If you are 10 days late on a 28 day normal cycle, and combined with the fact that progesterone tests showed you did not ovulate, I would suspect that you ovulated very very late, and that is the reason for the delayed period. If you were continuing to have sex during that time, then it's still possible, but just to early to tell. It's also possible you did not ovulate at all and will require prometrium or something similar to get things going. Most of us have a cycle like that every now and then. But I would bet anything your ovulation was impacted by the clomid and was much much later then normal. The average women has an approximate luteal phase of 14 days, so you may have to wait a bit longer to see what has happened.
I would ask my Dr. for a beta test to make sure.
Good luck.
Thank you ladies,
I am now 12 days late, still neg hpt, I went for a blood test yesterday and I was supposed to hear back today but the weather was so bad there was a black out and they went home early. When we first started to get pregnant I thought it would be so easy, I have such a sensitive system that I have always known when I was ovulating. I thought my mind was playing tricks on me because I no longer felt the ovulation cramps and moodiness. So last month was the first month I felt serious cramps around ovulation time so I was hopeful. I have been on a 31 day cycle the past 4 months....until now. Of all days for a black out, I was so ready to hear the results. Melissa, you give me hope knowing it is possible to not see a positive yet. They did a quantitive blood test so they will have the exact levels. I will keep you posted. Thank you both again for your responses.
hi let me know how u went lol as im waiting it out 2 @ 12 days over today with neg hpt
Sending you Baby dust & Good Luck wishes........... I also will be 39 on 2/12 (two days before you) oh how I am dreading that day.
Goodness, I am now 17 days late, I got the results back last week and I am not pregnant. My hcg level was below 2 and my progesterone levels were really low. I am finally feeling like I am having some pms so at this point I am just ready to get AF and try again next month. I feel awful and bloated. Thank you for the baby dust :) I will keep in touch and let you know how next month goes.
Tamtam, did you ever get a positive?
I'm 17 days late and been off clomid for two months. I've taken three pregnancy tests including a blood test resulting with Negative pregnancy. It's so weird, I've always been regular to the minute and now these delays! Running out of time, I'm in 45+ category. Six sessions of IUI failed.
