How do I appeal to my insurance?

Midwifery and intervention free births cost a lot less, so why doesn't my insurance want to cover a birthing center? And how do I appeal? What proof will I have to provide to get them to help me cover it?
If the insurance won't cover (assuming I have no need of a hospital transfer) it will cost us $3500 to deliver at the birthing center, but we could deliver at the hospital for $3000 max (including complications like nicu, c section, etc). It would save the insurance money to let us deliver at the birthing center! I saw the cost list with my daughter and her birth cost nearly $10,000 that the insurance paid for at least half of!

Because it's a lot of politics within the hospital & insurance industry. Birthing centers are not as credible & most of the time, private. Insurance companies much rather deal with big hospitals where they probably have a whole department devoted just for insurance papers and stuff. And like you said, there's a chance of complications with birthing center which they will still have to transfer you to a hospital, which is more trouble for insurance (2 claims instead of 1)... it's all about business & politics, sad But true.

I don't mind going to the hospital because my midwife rocks but I was wanting to do a birthing center. I would have thought since I'm bout doing my prenatal care with them it would get me a price break but nope. Still the same price. Technically if I have it completely paid in the next fourteen weeks, the center will give me a $500 discount, making it about the same either way. However, they don't refund for hospital transfers and if that happens I'll end up paying over $6000 when I could have just started at the hospital to begin with.

Yeah I was devastated when I found out my insurance won't cover home births I cried for hours. Then I found out only one birthing center takes my insurance and that's only if they don't have too many people due the same month and its over an hour away. But my hospital is very midwife friendly so I'll be asking my midwife tomorrow about not being hooked up to IVs and stuff I don't want that.

That's really strange, you think it would be the opposite. But I guess government run stuff tends to always be backwards anyways. You think they'd want to invest in the future instead of sucking $$ from it.

Right? I get chipping in for unnecessary things, but they'd rather pay for a hospital birth with an epidural than a homebirth or birthing center.

Wow. I can't believe they make women pay for childbirth. That's pretty crazy :/
