The mother always gets full custody, unless the father goes to court for it.

Also in order to get his last name, he should have to be on the Birth Certificate as the father.

If you are on any state assistance of any kind, you will be required to file for child support. I with fit the State of Vermont, and that's how it is here, so i assume its the same for all US states.

File for full custody and then file for child support. Even if you don't need the money now you may someday 18 years is a long time. You can always save it as a college fund or your babies first car. He contributed in creating he needs to contribute in taking care of him/her. As long as you have a court order for child support his wages can be garnished from his job. Think long term!

my cousin is 22 weeks right now and has proof when she found out she was preg that he wanted her to get an abortion and he wants nothing to fo with either of them. she's actually looking into wether he'll just sign his rights away cuz her new man is already treating tge pregnancy like its his baby even knowing its not and they're talkin marrige. Idk of things differ from state to state but maybe call for a consultation on what would be best for you and your baby.

I personally wouldn't wait on the custody thing. You don't want to wait and have him file first for some reason. It probably won't happen but you never know.

You shouldn't have to wait at all to file for full custody. If he's not on the birth certificate it shouldn't be an issue but better to get it on file now than later. Call your county they can give you specific info on what you need to do now. If you have time now no reason to wait. Much harder to get later.

I currently pay child support for my daughter bc her grandmother is helping me and the father out bc times were VERY tough...but according to the Department of Revenue (child Support) you cant make him pay child support if he is not on the birth certificate because you have to at least prove he is the father. youll have to get a court order for a paternity test and go from there....unless he cooperates...but if he isnt on the birth certificate, or theres no medical proof that he is the father, he doesnt have to pay child support bc he could say "ive never slept with this woman"

If he hasn't been in the picture and your scared of him comming back than file for full custody. They can't make you take child support or him give it unless you want it. If you can support you and your baby than there is no reason for it. But if you are scared he is going to come back than I'd go for custody, I don't know how it is in the sates but my mom didnt get custody of me and my brother and she was scared that he would just pop up on day and take us and because he was on the birth certificate he could there would have been nothing she could do.

yeah that's what I'm scared of, what if later on he wants to come back.. i doubt it. but yeah. I guess I'll just deal with that when the time comes.

If you dont need him or his money just leave it be BUT if he starts acting like he wants to be in her life take him to court for custody and put him on child support this way u have it in writing and he can never take her from u cause he has the right to take her dont mean to scare u

If u dont need the money then dont give urself the hassle and stress! If all hes gonna do is cause trouble for u then your better off without him involved x

if you don't need the money and you are able to take care of your baby by urself, then you don't need that all that drama. You can spend that time with you lil bundle of joy.  if he's not apart of your life and baby now, he's probably never going to be. so I would say if you don't need it, then don't stir up trouble.

I'm in usa. Yeah, its just I don't know if its the right choice like honestly the money I don't need and I don't want to be those nagging babymamas that are all about the child support, and I haven't talked to him in forever and knowing him he's gonna talk crap, and just try and take custody when he doesn't even care..probably just to **** me off >:(

First of all where are u from? In the uk u have to contact the child support agency then i supose they will contact him and work out how much he should give u, tho with them u wont get the full amount, my bf was paying the csa £200 a month for his son until he spoke to his sons mother n found out she was only getting £100 a month!! After that they made a legal agreement between both of their solicitors for him to pay an amount direct to her that was better for them both.
