A camera is a good idea, as well as a comb and if you want, makeup

After experience, I only needed a change of clothes to go home in(comfortable, maternity clothes , you'll be sore and bigger than you expect lol) clothes for baby(take newborn and 0-3 just in case the baby doesn't fit in the newborn size), a blanket to take baby home with. You will want a comfy pillow. I can't sleep without my own pillow. I had a short labor, so didn't need anything to keep my mind occupied. I don't think I could have concentrated on it even if I tried.

Talk to your doctor about what the hospital gives you first. I wouldn't wear my own nightgown unless you aren't worried about getting blood on it. Most hospitals provide you with disposable panties and pads. You really don't need alot unless you have a planned c section. But things do happen I had a high fever so I had to stay an extra 2 nights. I also don't feel the need to take things like shampoo because you aren't there long enough to shower I for one only got up to pee I wasn't in any shape to shower...just my opinion.

For you:

Hospital notes and birth plan
Disposable pants (7-10 pairs)
Maternity sanitary pads (two packs of 10 or 12)
Two long T-shirts or old nightdresses to wear for labour (front opening is a good idea so you can feed your baby without fuss)
Socks (cold feet are a common complaint)
Slippers
A lightweight dressing gown
Lip balm to prevent dry lips in labour (another common complaint)
Cool-water spray
Facecloth
Hairbands
Cartons of juice or bottles of water
Glucose tablets for energy
Healthy snacks
Toiletries
Spare toothbrush and paste (so you can pack it in advance)
Tissues
Hairbrush and towel
Make-up and remover
Nursing bra and breastpads
A phonecard (some hospitals prefer mobile phone use to be restricted to outside the building)
Your address book
Some loose change (about £10 should be enough)
Laundry bag for dirty clothes
Going home outfit (but still maternity clothes at this stage!)
A camera and spare batteries (and film if it’s not digital)
A camcorder (if allowed) and film/batteries
Your mobile phone (some hospitals allow them to be used in corridors, or you could always take it outside)
A portable battery-operated stereo/radio player and tapes or CDs (if you want them for the birth) plus spare batteries
An MP3 player
A few books/magazines/games for both of you
Pen and paper
A pillow, blanket and change of clothes for your partner (in case he or she’s in for an overnight stay)
A gift for your older child if you have one (to make him/her feel special too)
For your baby:

A pack of newborn nappies
A pack of cotton wool balls for nappy changes
A towel
Six stretch sleepsuits
Six vests
A cardigan
Socks
Hat
Blanket (plus coat if it's winter)
A few muslin cloths
A pack of disposable bibs or six cloth bibs
Nappy rash cream
