How do you caculate how many months prego you are?

i feel kinda dumb asking this, but no one seems to be able to tell me!! If I am 24 weeks 5 days wouldnt that make me 6 months pregnant? (4 weeks in a month) my sister says no. I just figure if we are prego for 40 weeks, which really we arent....b/c that is counted from our first day of last period than we are really only prego for 37-38 weeks. this is all so confusing! 40 weeks = 10 months. than i would be 6 months right now.plus my due date is 4 months away.... HMMMMMM what are your thoughts ladies?

i always tell people when they ask how many months i am...."they don't go by months anymore" and say i'm 32 weeks and full term is 40 weeks
I was getting confusded becuase in what to expect book the say "you are in your 6th month" but really you are 5 months....i was always thinking i was a month further then i was

Yeah, that doesn't really work to be exactly accurate.  My due date is April 10th, but conception was around the 18th of July.  But it's not bad if people want to know how many months you are, you don't have to have an exact number... You can go buy the day you are due like anita said.  Now the Dr's will always go by weeks, they say you are pregnant for 40 weeks, because they count the first two weeks before you are actually preggo.  They go by the first day of your last period, not the actual implation or conception date.

well they gave me that due date from an ultrasound, so i would assume its correct. plus i chart my cycle so i know when i ovulate.

i looked a bit online and still dont have a clear anser, it seems like each website says something different! I guess i'lll just go by weeks instead.

The date of conception could had been with in a few days before.  Thats just when implantation happened.  Your due date is never 100%.  Its just the computer's hypothesis... It goes by the baby's measurements.

I see what you are saying. I am due May 12th so that would make conception August 12th which it wasnt. It was between August 19-23rd.

When is your due date?  My due date is April 12th.  So I count back from my due date.  The 12th of each month I'm one month further.  I'll type it out so you can see what I mean.  Anita


April 12th-  9 months
March 12th-  8 months
Feb. 12th- 7 months
Jan. 12th-  6 months
December 12th-  5 months
November 12th-  4 months
Oct. 12th-  3 months
Sep. 12th-  2 months
Aug. 12th-  1 month
July 12th-  conception
