I wore my own clothes after both of my kids and I took showers both times too. I just didn't feel comfortable laying around in their clothes and basically wearing nothing, but I feel weird sleeping without a bra on so that's just how I am I guess. I had sweatpants that you don't mind blood in just in case and loose shirts for my stay there and then the same thing for coming home. Don't forget your hair brush, lip balm, slippers or flip flops for walking around, and I would make a list of things you have to take last minute, like phones and chargers. For the baby, you only need the coming home outfit and probably a warm blanket.

Oh, the thick pads were my savior!!  Ha.  The hospital had them and so I got what the hospital had.  We had totally different experiences.  I had trouble getting up after my baby!  I stood up and would have a gush of blood every time.

Perhaps you could go to someplace that you can return things and get a box of thin and a box of thick.  Use what you need and return what you don't.

Oh, another great thing to have that the tier three hospital I delivered at used besides the thick pads for new moms is a combo approach---  tucks pads that you leave in your underwear, throw away next time you go to the bathroom and then use preparation H and then use another tucks next time you go to the bathroom, alternating.  It REALLY helped with the discomfort.

By the way, I've had more than one baby and it was this way with each birth for me.  good luck sweetie.

I had 4th degree tearing, the absolute LAST thing you want to buy are thick pads! Buy super absorbant thinner pads because believe me with the amount of stitches I had the last thing I wanted to do was to sit on something the size of a pillow. And as for showering at the hospital! I showered the day I had my son and felt 10,000x better (as birth is pretty disgusting and leaves you feeling dirty)! So please do bring shampoo and conditioner and body wash for yourself!

Hi there!  Take some socks that you don't mind throwing away.  (mine got blood on them and just grossed me out so were left in the hospital trash can).  Maybe a robe.  Don't worry about jammies because using the hospital gown is much easier.  I knew I'd have some bleeding but wasn't expecting the amount I actually had which come to find out is pretty typical.  You won't wear underwear while in the hospital and you won't want to ruin your pajamas.  And for breast feeding the gown is easy.  I'd bring your cosmetic bag but don't worry about taking a shower.  You won't feel like it.  You'll most likely shower when you get home.  You are recovering while at the hospital and aren't up to your usual things.  Have LOTS of thick pads at home for your return.  Didn't know that and my husband had to do a 3 am Wal Mart run to get some for me!

Take everything in the hospital room too---  diapers, wipes, baby shampoo and brush, etc.  All of that is paid for with your room so is yours.  Take it!'

then for coming home, comfy maternity pants.  I thought the belly went right down after you had the baby.  Nope.  Take an outfit for the baby to go home in and make sure it is the smallest one you have. My babies were 8 to 9 pounds at birth and they still swam in the 0 to 3 month clothes the first couple of weeks.  Play with the car seat so you know how to fasten it and all but obviously take that too.

good luck hon!
