A doctor going on vacation is not a good reason to induce labor. Just because 37 weeks is considered full term doesn't mean baby is ready. If baby was ready early (s)he would come early. Unless there's a genuine medical reason, inductions shouldn't happen until after 40 weeks.
My sister was induced early because her preferred doctor was going on vacation, and I think her choice was very selfish. I'm 37 weeks and want my baby to stay in me until he's ready to come out.
full term is technically still 40 wks, anything before 37 wks is considered pre-term so I think ladies are taking the 37 wk mark being full term as wrong, it just means babies lungs are more than likely to be matured enough not to have any problems when born. There are still plenty of babies born at 37 wks that have to go into scbu as they cant hold there body temperature etc....
no its not its only 10 months if you go by a lunar calendar which has 4 straight weeks in it, all months except feb have longer than 4 wks, so its not right, thats why pregnancy is dated in wks now, 40 wks is full term
37-41 weeks is full term. Before 37 is considered premature, after 41 is considered post-term. The only thing is it's not uncommon for them to have our dates off by a week or two. My doc might induce me at 39 weeks for medical reasons (I've had complications throughout), and I'm fine with that. If she wanted to induce me at 37 weeks I would fight her since if she was even a week off in her due date, my baby could end up in the NICU.
