Legal question!!

Ladies I have a question that I really need help with, the father of my baby made his mind up to have nothing to do with my baby. I tried to change his mind but he didn't want a bar of it. So I've agreed with him that if he doesn't want to man up and be a father than that's his regret that he's going to live with, he's moved a few hours away now but insists that he won't be on the birth certificate. I don't really care what he wants at all, but I know I want his name on the birth certificate because I want my child to have the opportunity (years from now obviously) to find him, if he or she feels like that's what they want to do. So this is a legal question, can I put him on the birth certificate without his permission? Just adding that I live in Victoria in Australia, as I know laws and things are different everywhere. Thank you!

Yes my sister in law left her baby daddy off the birth cert for same reason. As if hes on there and you say want to move state or something he can make that difficult for u. Best wishes. It really is his loss.

I spoke to legal aid and they told me that unfortunately I do need his signature. But they also reminded me that if he does sign it, then in the future there will be a lot of things that need parent signatures and if were both on the birth certificate then we both need to sign. (Passports etc) so it's better off just keeping him off there altogether. Thanks guys!

You can take him to court where they will make him do a dna and then wen it comes back positive he gets put on the certificate wether he likes it or not. If you wanna go with a cheeper option just put a daddy box together. A shoe box with all the information you know. Adresses dob pics relatives names exetra

No, you will need him to sign the appropriate paperwork confirming he is the father and consenting to the confirmation.  That does not mean when the time comes and your child asks about him that you can't give them that information yourself. Gather whatever useful info you can now that will help later on and put it in a safe place.
