I'm going all natural, doing a water birth :) And it's not a matter of choice for me, no meds is my only option since I have medication allergies so it's definitely going to be interesting!
I'm definately going to have some sort of pain meds for sure. I'm not too sure about the epidural.
Lol. Are you scared? And do you have a supportive family? Mine tells me I can't handle it.. /: But I've heard that water birth take away some pain, but I'm not sure. But I do wish you luck!! How far along are you?
@schultz1124 what one are you thinking of getting?? And why not the epidural?
I'm not ruling out the epidural, but I'm not all for it either. I guess I just won't know until the time comes. I'm also planning on breastfeeding. I didn't want to use a pacifier since it was so hard to break my stepdaughter from one, but I heard it helps prevent SIDS so we'll be using one.
Go with epidural IM going to do it. My mom told me it best and she did it with me and IM going to to,do and so is my kids.
I went basically natural with my first. I have a super weak stomach when it comes to pain meds so I didn't want to get sick thus didn't want the pain meds but I took 2 half doses of pain meds through the whole 23 hour long process and the last one was about 7 hours maybe 8 hours before I started pushing. But I stuck with no epi and I healed pretty quick. I didn't have to have pain meds after delivery for any kind of pain it was all tolerable and controllable at its worst with OTC pain meds like Tylenol. The hardest part was when I had to stay in bed for 12 straight hours after they broke my water...my meditation focused on different positions for where the pain was centralized and I couldn't sit, squat, walk or anything after that and had to have a nurse with me in the restroom at all times...before that I'd say it was the perfect labor. This one, I'm hoping goes the same way. My advice to you would be keep your plan more open and be accepting to listen to drs and nurses. If you can go the whole way as you planned with no meds then great but don't see it as a failure if you need something to relax you to catch a nap or if it just becomes too much. Congrats and good luck!!
@rasberryxtreme, what allergies do you have? I have a lot of medication allergies too but my dr neber really talked about what i could or could not have. I am going natural but i tested positive for strep B, im 40 +2 days and the drs are still looking for a antibiotic to use. I had to get the test done three times so far -.-'
Id say go with your gut. Your body your choice. Try joining a support group for natural births.
My first baby i wanted to go natural so bad but i was induced (since i couldnt stand or walk very well w/o severe hip pain) and the pitocin made my contractions super painful by only 3 cm dilated. I ended up getting pain meds. This baby i really want to suffer through and go natural, i dont want headaches and backpain and a three day hospital stay from epidural again.
I have done both and im pregnant with my 3 child and im going to go all nautral again its not as bad as it seems.
Just curious, when you get the epidural what happens when you need to go to the restroom?
Thanks ladies! :) I think I will keep an open mind about pain medication, I just reaaaaaaly don't want to have any expecually an epidual. I kind of want to prove a point to myself aand my family that I can do this, but I do understand some things come up, lol. Congrats to everyone and their chooices.
Also to @halerz90 my breastfeeding assistant told me that paccifires don't decrese the chances. She said their used as a coping device for babys, or sometimes they can't suck so they have to use one to learn how. I see her every now and then and she gives me panflets and advice on what to expect lol. But if you want to use a paccifire, I'm not telling you not to because it's your choice. I just thought I would share what I was told myself.
@BabyTurnip what is strep B??
Epidural you have a catheder in and there fore no bathroom trips. You are stuck in a laying position. Cant even wiggle your toes
Oh wow so if you need to go restroom what would they do?
Nothing...the catheter gets inserted in your urethra and when your bladder needs to empty the catheter drains automatically.
Its kind of nice not having to go pee lol i can not even imagine having to pee with painful contractions!
Does it hurt when they insert the catheter?
No not even. Compare it to contractions. Or even getting a needle in your back.
I have issues with the bones in my spine from a car accident when i was younger. And I can get some pain meds through the iv line it just curbs the pain. Plus I want to feel me giving birth and not be numb.
The medicine I'm going to get is called Nubain. It goes directly into the iv line. That's my plan anyways, if I have to get a csection then ill have to be put under full anesthesia.
I just got done watching videos of natural childbirth without meds on YouTube, and now I'm a little scared... It's just hard for me to imagine I am going to go through childbirth! Ahh!
Went all natural and plan on doing the same with this one.
