Unclear hpt test results.........hmmm....sos....

Ok, new here so not sure how this works, but here goes.....
Me and my dh are trying to conceive, which fairly hard to achieve, he has retrograde ejaculation (dry ejaculation). We were pregnant once last year, which resulted in a miscarriage.  
Well I was feeling funny so my mom told me to go get an hpt.  I peed on the stick (+/-) and a dark blue line to the left showed up, it was extremely thin, but at first it was wider.
Well confused by that I went and got some more test different and PINK test this time.  The equate had something wrong with it's control, no lines any where.  So that was a bit discouraging.  So I used a dollar tree cassette later that night and it was negative. This morning I used another dollar tree cassette and it showed up as a pink smudge, not line, and the control..........Oh. am I so confused...........I am thinking that I need to be calling some companies......Any help is good help..........

I took one more dollar store test and it was negative, so I'm guna take it as that....Thanx ladies for the help and advice............

Try using a cup and dipping the test then laying it flat with the next one..

All results were read before 5 minutes and I did not wait for the whole 10 to throw them away, at 5 minutes I thew them out.  I am aware of evap. lines, but these were very different as in evap. lines usually are colorless, like a shadow, a dent, or yellowish.  This was the same color as the test's dye, either blue or pink.
I used 3 different brands, 1 Clear blue (+/-), 1 equate, and 2 dollar tree......
I am approx. 17 days after ovulation, I feel when I ovulate......I know it's weird and gross, but I can't help my body............
All test's except 1 was done with fmu.
I guess I'm just guna have to spring for the money for one of those digital thing, I'm not too keen on having something digital near my hoo ha..........thanx ladies..........but it still doesn't explain the mysterious results.....come on I've never had a test smudge where the positive should be, I should take a picture, well I suppose there's a first for everything.......

It sounds to me like a false positive. :( best thing to do would be to get a blood test to see. Maybe your hcg level isn't high enough to really be detected yet.

Also, don't read them after the time limit.  You will get evaporation lines that confuse the reading.
