Is it possible for a fetus to not attach itself to the uteus for 1-2 weeks? How does that work?

Is it even possible for my doctor to come up with my LMP? It was new to me, I have 2 kids already. But I have had one due date off by a whole month with my oldest son. The due date they gave him was Nov. 16th and he was born Oct 16th.

No, the ultrasound will not be off. Your embryo should measure exactly how far along they are based on conception, NOT implantation. You could've ovulated late.

I used a couple different due date calculators with your LMP and they say October 26, which is exactly 14 days before the date they gave you.

I'm not trying to argue with your doctor, because I am not one, but it sounds like she is counting the 40 weeks or 280 days, from CONCEPTION and not from LMP. That would put your due date on November 8th. Though I am  not sure where she is getting the dates of Feb 14th or 15th. Like I said, I am no doctor, but those are the dates that the calculators come up with.

Personally, I would just accept what she says, (since you are so far along and probably don't want to be changing OB at this point,) but be prepared that you could definitely go earlier than she says.

My due date is November 8, 2009. When I went for my first appointment with my OB/GYN they did a ultrasound and from that they got that I was 11 weeks and 5 day. She said that I would have conceived on Feb.14th or 15th. I told her that my LMP was Jan 19th and she tried to argue me in to the ground about it. I asked her if the ultrasound could possibly be off by 2 weeks and she said that it would only be off by 3 days. But I know for sure that I did not have my period at all in feb.

Ultrasounds are pretty accurate in early pregnancy, as most babies develop at a certain rate, but later on, since babies begin to grow at a different rate, they CAN be off. They are usually accurate during the first trimester.

I'm not sure why they are telling you what your LMP was, when you know the date. That seems a little strange to me. You may have conceived around Feb 1st, which would fit perfectly with your LMP.

Maybe there are going by your conception date and not by your LMP?? Because that would give you the two week difference from the 11 week 5 days to the 13 weeks...Just a thought. :)

You should be do soon, right? :) What is your due date?

My LMP was Jan. 19, 2009. See whenever I went to the doctor the first time they said that I was 11 weeks and 5 day (that was April 23rd). And by the ultrasound they said that I had my period Feb. 1, 2009. Which is not right because I didn't have a period at all in Feb. That is why I was asking because I am just REALLY confused on how they got my period was Feb.1st. Can they normally be off by 2 weeks. The only thing I can figure is maybe my baby implanted later. Any Ideas?

If I understand you right :) the answer would be no, it won't be off because they date you by the first day of your last menstrual period and not by the date of conception. I'm not sure where you are, but in the US they don't go by the conception date, usually just your LMP. I hope this helps. :) If not, feel free to post again and I'll try to be clearer.

What I am asking is if the fetus implanted itself 12 days after conseption, then when they do your ultrasound, can it be off by 12 days. Like if my ultrasound measured 11 weeks and 5 days is there a chance that the fetus is really 13 weeks (due to late implantation)? Sorry, I didn't ask the question right... :)

Most ultrasound are done after a missed period so the embryo should already be implanted by then, so no, an ultrasound should not be affected by it. It is usually between 6-8 weeks after your last period when something can be seen clearly on an ultrasound. Anything before that is too small, though you might seen a gestational sac and yolk sac. The fetal pole and heartbeat won't be seen until approximately 6-8 weeks.

So if the fetus implants later, does that affect the early utlrasound (seeing how many weeks you are)?

I got the following from webmd

Within 24 hours after fertilization the egg begins dividing rapidly into many cells. It remains in the fallopian tube for about three days. The fertilized egg (called a zygote) continues to divide as it passes slowly through the fallopian tube to the uterus where its next job is to attach to the endometrium (a process called implantation}.

So, to answer your question, yes, the cells start to multiply before implantation. I hope this answers your question. :)

What i mean is does it start grow (cells multiplying) when it attaches to the uterus or before?

Does the fetus still grow if it is not attached to the uterus?

The ovum (egg) is actually fertilized while still in the fallopian tube. Implantation occurs 7-12 days (approximately) after conception because that is just how long it takes for the ovum to reach the uterus and burrow in the uterine lining.
