Question about delivery...

I don't know if this is really about delivery, but when does your doctor tell you if your going to be induced or have a scheduled c-section or if you are just going to wait for your EDD. I know this might not make since, but I was curious if I would know something at my 20week appt. checkup.

Thanks for your help.

In response to " when does your doctor tell you if your going to be induced or have a scheduled c-section", no Dr. should TELL you what your going to do. That decision is something that should be discussed together, along with the reasons that might necissitate them. But in the end, it is entirely YOUR decision. Alot of Dr.s forget that and patients also forget that the Dr. title does not make them dictator or god. They are an employee that you (or your insurance, lol) are paying to do you a service. Don't be bullied!

Trying to avoid a home birth? Have you had children before and did they come so fast that they think you wouldn't have time to get to a hospital in time for this one?

I would question ANY doctor that talks about induction of a normal healthy pregnancy at 20 weeks! There should be a sound medical reason for induction since it increases the chances of needing further interventions. The safest way to have a child is naturally then vaginally with pain meds. This country has a 35% c section rate as opposed to other countrys being about 15%. This is not a good thing. Most of these c sections are a result of a doctor wanting to make the body do something it isn't ready to do with induction. Induction should never be routine!  Late pregnancy, yes. Scheduled at 20 weeks....no way. I would get a second opinion!

I just had my 20 week appt today and they told me that my induction will be september 9th. So I don't know I guess every doc is different plus with me they are trying to avoid a home birth or a csection so that's why the induction. My sister went two weeks late before her ob scheduled her.

Most healthy women are encouraged to labor and deliver on their own. Inductions have a high risk of leading to emergency c-section. Our bodies know what to do and in the off-chance that something is wrong they'll talk about your options when you're full term.

Induction and c-section really wont be discussed until late in the pregnancy unless there is a known issue or if you've had a previous c-section. If all is going well with your pregnancy, they'll likely just wait for you to go on your own. I highly doubt they would discuss any of this at a 20 wk appt/ultrasound unless you asked about it or if they (God forbid) found something wrong with the baby. Induction and c-section are normally practiced as a last minute intervention. Good luck.
