Get a spray bottle and mix it with water and baking soda
Dont use it. I know its an inconvenience but just be done with it and get maybe a used one from a non smoke home...like Craig's list or offer up app.
Good luck, I will bet the bassinet is made to be cleaned, and you will be able to get the smell off everything except perhaps the mattress (and it might surprise you and come clean also).
I wouldn't risk putting my baby in the bassinet if I couldn't get it clean. I have taken it very seriously, my Mum had drilled into me about the smoke smell and SIDS and I've also looked into it myself.. like I said, if I have to buy a new bassinet mattress or even a new bassinet all together, I will.. just gonna have a hard time explaining to his parents why we refuse to use the bassinet. My Mum has a brand new one at hers that she will let us have for the time being, I just wanted to make his parents feel included but the safety and health of my baby is way more important. Thanks for the tips guys, I seriously appreciate it :)
Well, cecilia, I wasn't talking about straight bleach, but a dilute mix of bleach and water. That's what hospitals use. I do agree with stephie that white vinegar is a miracle agent, it kills both bacteria and viruses, so why not try it on a basinette?
Vinegar. It does wonders on everything. I used it on a couch I got from my aunt who smokes
I almost agree with Annie brook except bleach is abbas disgusting as snow and other chemicals nasty cleaning agent there. Have you stripped the fabric off the bassinet to wash it? Bc song other chemicals to the already problem or trying to mask them smell is going to be much help mot to mention bleach will only ruin the color in the fabric off the bassinet. As for the Mattress they are so inexpensive id honestly just buy a new one. Like I said take all the fabric posts of bassinet and wash that and wrote down the frame with some cleaning wipes like Lysol or something. Good luck.
As long as there is smoking residue on it, it will be unsafe to use, not just aesthetically bothersome. I would not just try to mask the smell with a spray like Febreeze, the residue itself is dangerous no matter how it smells. Hot water and bleach would do it, and if you cannot get the mattress clean, can you buy a new mattress to put in the existing frame? Take this seriously, research has found that babies being around smokers increases their SIDS risk even if the smokers do not smoke around the baby. I would not put a baby to sleep in something that surrounds them with smoking residue.
Try Washing It Again hot Water And Maybe Adding those Sprinkles Detergent? Those Are Pretty Strong Smelling??
