Very Pissed, Black names/White names...Is there a such thing?

Ladies check this out, this really pissed me off:
I'm a Black female named Amy, yes its rare but we do exsist! LOL  My husband is named Patrick which I guess can go either way.  My question is; is there a such thing as a black name and a white name?  My neighbor that lives above me (white lady) asked "oh have you picked out a name yet?"  I told her the only thing we've been able to come up with so far has been Chancellor.  She looked at me and said "that's a white name isnt it?"  I was so offended that I gave her a snotty look and walked off.  She spoke to me again this morning but I didnt even speak back.  As I think about it, it seems kind of silly, and because I'm bigger than the bullsh*t I will speak to her again but I do feel the need to ask her what makes a name a color?  Do any of you ladies know?

People are ignorant as everybody here has summed up pretty good.. my husband and I wanted to name our daughter jasmine and everybody we knew told us that is a "black name"  somebody even went and found a magazine with a cutie little black baby in it named jasmine.. guess what our daughter's name is jasmine.. we liked it... dont' care what other people say.. and even if it is a "black girl" name.. so what!  I also get **** about my youngest daughter who we nick named baby girl because she was the baby girl and my other 2 kids couldn't pronounce her real  name (felicity)  who cares what people say!  if you like it go for it!

Wow, it just shows how ignorant people are. I grew up in a area that had African Americans say things like that about my siblings and I (they said mines was the blackest out of all of ours) My sisters are Rachel,Cathy, and Roxane and I am Tasia so yeah. Don't let it get to you, people will do and say some dumb things just explain and go on with your life.

I love the name you've chosen - I agree with the other ladies that if you and your DH like the name that's all that matters.  But please - EDUCATE and enlighten your neighbor that what she said was offensive!  She will likely repeat offensive comments (perhaps unknowingly) to someone else!  I have a student (who is African/American) who's name is Confidence - I love that too!

I don't beleive that there is such a thing as black and white names. I come from a very mixed family, my mom is white and I was raised with a black step father all my siblings are mixed and our names are all diffrent as my mom says. Mine is Tabitha, my half brothers are Paris and Dominique, my half sister is Erica (not so uncommen anymore) I have 2 step brother named Perry and Harrison. I have been commenly mistaken for being black befor I met the person just because of my name! Thats just crazy!  My step father picked the name from the show Bewitched that was popular around the time I was born and than there is Tabitha Stephens the porn star... she's white. My oldest son has a cute little girl in his class named Tabitha...she's black!  So what ever! I dont think that a name should define a race but the person. I like a lot of unique names and I think Chancellor is a beautiful name. Dont listen to your nosey neighbor, although I am kinda curious to what she thinks you should name your child:)p
Good luck with your baby and the name game!

I think the name is BEAUTIFUL...name that sweet baby what you want and ingnore people like that.  My son's name is Jeremiah and I have met both black and white childern with his name....as you do with most biblical names.  Do what makes you happy, as for the lady upstairs I would say she is ignorant and probably didn't mean to offend you, she was probably too stupid to realise that her comment was uncalled for.

I am multiracial as well, and if there were such things as black names, asian names, white names, do you know what a hard time my parents would've had naming me...I'm Japanese, Mexican, and Black...and my name is Miko, it's Japanese.  I knew one girl who was like "Miko...I used to think that was a ghetto Black name till I met you." There's still alot of ignorant people out there, it's just sad.
